I've just posted this in 'Sleep' but on reflection maybe it's better here....

Title says it all really. I'm exhausted, DH is sleeping in the room so it doesn't disturb him so much. Will it get better on its own or is there anything I can try? TIA

dd is also 4months and she was doing this she still does some nights but they are gradually getting fewer and farther between so hopefully it should get better soon sorry no advice really only support to offer.

thanks.... it just feels as if there's no sign of improvement whatsoever at the moment! How often is your dd feeding now?

She goes down about 10pm is up about 1am then again at 4am and then gets up between 6 and 7 she is 17 weeks so a little older than yours but I damn sight better than my ds he had r bad colic and only slept between 12pm and 3 am and the rest was screaming. The only thing that stopped the formula was the knoledge that it would make colic worse. I think she should improve soon just hold on as long as you can and about the time you reach the end of your tether she should get better .

My tether is quite long fortunately. If it's just a matter of patience, I can probably do that.

It gets better, I promise.

Just ride it out. It won't last forever. My dd fed every 2hrs day and night for at least the first 7 months. I got through it by cosleeping at night and doing whatever I needed to get through the day. Slept when I could, accepted every offer of help going, ignored the housework, told myself it wouldn't last forever. It didn't. Looking back it's a short time but when it's happening you feel like you're slowly having everything inside you that makes you human slowly sapped away- energy, emotion, thought processes- and replace with porridge.

7 months

Really hope it doesn't take that long!! Did she turn into a good sleeper eventually or not? DD1's been an extremely good sleeper from 4 months onwards (she's now 2.1) so I really wasn't prepared for this at all.

Define 'good'?

She's 2.6.

She rarely napped and dropped all naps at 13 months.

She has never slept through.

She stopped breastfeeding to sleep a couple of months ago.

She slept in with us all night until a couple of months ago.

She still gets in with us on first waking. Sometimes as early as 11pm, sometimes not until 3pm.

Does any of it bother me? Not a jot.

She self settles, bed is not a battle zone, she loves going to bed, she doesn't cry or fuss when she wakes, just has a quick cuddle and nods back off.

It's nothing like the hell of 2hrly feeds and everybody here's happy. Depends what your expectations are I suppose. I just lowered mine as far as I could get them from the second I saw the line.

titfertat · 18/11/2009 14:12

my expectations are lowering all the time!
