DS is BF, and recently seems to be dropping his daytime feeds. he is BLW and I have noticed that he is eating substantially more recently. Thing is, on some days he is not interested in milk even if i offer it and on other days he'll not 'ask' but then has had some when i have offered... so i'm not really sure whats going on. I just want to make sure he's having enough, as far as i'm aware milk should still be his main source of nutrition?
He has a feed when he wakes up and before bed without fail, its just during the day i'm confused and wonder if i should still be offereing boob before meals or just let him get on with it in his own way now?
sorry for rambling post... hope someone can help!

ds and dd were bottlefed but both were down to 2 feeds per day by 10/11 months. From 9 months until then they had 3 feeds which were am, pm and mid-afternoon. I made up their intake through food e.g. milk with cereal, yoghurt, cheese, etc

Can't really help as DD still doesn't eat much at 13 months but is a boob fiend so I am slightly of your DS!

I think on Kellymom it says something about offering boob before meals until 12 mo - might be worth having a look? Is he still gaining weight (though DD was born on 50th centile, went up to 75th on boob alone, then back down to 50th after she started on solids)?

My advice would just be to make it available if he wants it and trust him not to let himself starve, but someone wiser might be able to give better advice than that!

Good point re not knowing how much he's taking. My (pro-bfing most of the time ) mum hates BLW with a passion and is driving me mad going on and on about how I don't know how much DD is eating and if I just fed her a nice pot of puree then I'd be able to see, despite the fact I've never known how much she's eating and she clearly isn't starving!

i think around 10 months my son was having 4-5 feeds a day. Around this time I was getting ready to go back to work and gradually phased in two bottles for the mid-day feeds, with breastfeeds in morning and night.

so it would be:

wake: BF
8am breakfast - cheerios to grab at, fruitpack with baby rice (wasn't BLW)
10:30 - bottle/BF
12:30 - lunch - mashed up stuff, plus finger foods
3:30-4:00 - bottle/BF
6:00 - dinner - mashed up stuff, yogurt and finger foods
7:30-8:00 - BF off to sleep

at some point, BLW just becomes eating so don't worry about that.

My DS was on three breastfeeds a day at 10 months. I dropped her to three feeds when I went back to work at 7 months and she had a bottle on my three days at work and a breastfeed when I was home. It worked fine for her - I would just go with what your child is asking for and not worry about it.

Im not BLW (half and half) but my Ds 7mth has dropped milk v quickly, Some days only feeds morning and evening and others feeds in day too, If they need/want it they'll take it im sure.

Thanks for all the responses everyone... i guess i'm just going to carry on and not worry to much... he is still putting on weight (albeit much more slowly than when he was exclusively BF) and is happy and alert... and he is not exactly subtle when he does want to bf (slobbering all over my chest!). left him for the day with my mum and he actually had half a cup of formula after his afternoon nap - something he has NEVER been remotely interested in before! means i no longer have to worry about leaving him for longer stretches during the day.
thanks again
