Can someone explain hungry baby formula?

I'm not considering it, ds is no hungrier than the average baby! Just curious really in the point of it. My cousin gave it to her son from birth which I thought was a bad idea.

Basically there are two parts to milk, whey and casein. Stage 1 formula (from birth) is whey dominant, like breastmilk, stage 2 (hungry baby) is casein dominant which is closer to untouched cow's milk and is harder for an infant to digest, meaning it "satisfies" them for longer. Stage 3 (follow on) is also casein dominant, possibly to help aid the transition to cow's milk at 12 months?

Stage 2 formula is labelled as being suitable from birth, but you are supposed to start on the stage 1 milk. I'm not sure why someone would start on the stage 2 from birth, I am curious to know why now!

it's really just how formula used to be, i read somewhere. as they've improved the technology they've been able to arse about with the proteins and make them smaller somehow (no idea, i'm no science head, but this is one of the things that leads to claims of 'more like bm' because it is more like bm than early formula. so a mars bar is more like bm than a bacon buttie, iykwim?)

anyhoo, it just takes longer to digest, doesn't have any more cals or anything. i sometimes wonder if that's why those of our mothers who ff have such a hard time with that early 'bfing all the time' phase, because they were used to giving their babies these ginormous proteins to digest, that made them sleep for yonks.

Thanks!

Have no idea why my cousin has started on hungry baby, he is her 5th child, we aren't close. My aunty thinks it is to make him sleep longer which is sad.

I never would but I must admit it is someties tempting at 3am, when I have been up at midnight, 1am etc.

Whoever said formula babies sleep longer was lying! (that isn't my reasom for doing it by way, I breasfed for 5 weeks)
