I love BF!

I admit it, I LOVE BF! I started when my DD was born as I thought the health benefits were wonderful, but I now totally love it and I'm not looking forward to weaning her!

I thought I'd start this thread so everyone could express their love of BF!!

Fire away girls...

Me too. With DS BF was always a struggle, didn't latch for first 2 weeks, supply suffered, mix-fed for 7 months. With DD, 15 weeks tomorrow, things couldn't be more different. She was a natural BFer and we have a lovely bond and some lovely feeds. I started off by counting down "11 days of EBF" "2.5 weeks so that's 10% done" etc but now at 15 weeks the days of EBF are disappearing far too quickly for my liking. I absolutely love it and adore seeing my lovely chubby and content baby.

BertieBotts · 16/11/2009 22:42

It is lovely, I love it when DS pops off to tell me something (usually "Ba ba baba" - he can't talk yet!) and goes back to feeding with a smile.

Cardigan you don't have to wean her if you don't want to, been going for 13 months here!

cassell · 16/11/2009 22:55

I love it too after a difficult first couple of days I've been really lucky and it has been easy. Ds (now 7.5mo) loves it too even if he does tend to get easily distracted these days! I was planning to stop at 6months, then thought why on earth would I stop?! So now planning to ebf (well other than solids of course!) until I go back to work at 12mths but probably continue morning/evening feeds for a bit after that as will be really sad to stop. I just find it so amazing that my body can produce exactly what he needs when he needs it - oh and I love the "drunk on milk" look he gets when he's finished a feed, it's so satisfying.

squashimodo · 16/11/2009 23:40

I love it too. Unfortunately dd has a tongue tie and lip tie, and is unable to latch on at all. I have almost moved on to fully ebm, and while I know this is still breast feeding, I really miss the closeness. I had a little cry about it today, it really is lovely to be able to breastfeed your baby. I breastfed my 3 year old for 2.6 years, he self weaned, and while I was sad, I looked forward to being able to breastfeed dd, but sometimes things don't quite work out the way you hope.
I still love being able to give her ebm. However this evening dh gave her a bottle and I felt jealous. How sad is that?

YanknCock · 17/11/2009 00:24

I'm not sure I'd go as far as 'love', but am exceedingly grateful that breastfeeding has been a relatively easy experience thus far! Aside from DS giving me a sore nipple once from a bad latch (this was on day 2), everything has gone perfectly for the last 12 weeks. DS sleeps through the night, feeds every 2.5-3 hours during the day, and has a big bottle of EBM just before bedtime. I want to go back to work when he is about 5-6 months, so am already thinking about the logistics of continuing to feed him and working full time.

I do love the milk drunk look....I imagine him slurring 'get me a kebab and a taxi' at us as we put him down after the last feed of the evening!

BunnyLebowski · 17/11/2009 00:42

Yay

I love it too!

All the sore nips and lack of nights out could never make up for that first time dd grinned at me whilst still on the boob! Or the satisfied little om nom nom noises she makes!

There is no better feeling. Well done you!

ineedalifelaundry · 17/11/2009 00:44

I love bf too. I struggled with sore nipples for 8 weeks and nearly gave up so many times in those early days (especially the first night, with next to no support from the midwife on my ward ). But the thing I loved from the very start was the look of pure bliss and contentment on DD's face during and after a feed. I tried mix feeding but she hated bottles so it was ebf all the way for us. And once the pain had gone it was (and still is) so lovely. No better excuse for a sit down and a cuddle Still bfing at 15 months and no plans to stop.

ineedalifelaundry · 17/11/2009 00:47

Can I just apologise for using the angry emoticon on such a lovely, positive thread? It looks so out of place.

Sorry!

I will take my ishoos elsewhere

BunnyLebowski · 17/11/2009 01:20

No ishoos ineedalife! I'd imagine the shiteness of midwives across the land is a huge barrier to potential breastfeeding. I had my dd at home and she latched about 7 mins after being born.

Still going great 14 months on and no intention of stopping anytime soon!

Extended bf'ers five?

malfoy · 17/11/2009 02:21

I still miss breastfeeding.

ChocOrange05 · 17/11/2009 09:40

I love BF - I was planning to stop when DS was 1, which was last week but I don't want to yet! He only has a morning feed (and some daytime snacks at the weekend) but I love it. I especially like the times when DS is snacking and just lying there not even sucking just being so content, if he is just sitting there for a long time, I honk his nose and he giggles, whilst still latched on - its very cute!

And I haven't had an AF for 21 months!!

cardiganlover · 17/11/2009 18:41

Loving all the positive responses!!

I've been really lucky with BF. MW showed me how immediately after my C section. In hospital, all the nurses thought I was mad when I prodded my sleepy newborn awake every 3 hours day and night despite the stitches, but I was determined to get a good milk supply going!

My only complaint (as seen in another thread) is that DD will only BF and refuses point blank to take a bottle.

My favourite bits are: feeding in the middle of the night, our special cuddle time!; The comments people make when they see her face after a feed - everyone always says how content she looks; the convenience...it's always ready and at the right temperature!

Keep the lovely comments coming

love it love it love it

I'm always surprised that people don't talk about loving it more. I've told loads of people how I feel about it and they've said "me too" but in a way that makes it sound like a secret!

BF pulled me out of PND, for sure. Twas the only thing I knew I could do properly with DS when I was flailing around in the early days, so I clung to that and eventually everything else followed. Now I hope to make it to 2 years. Yay for BF!

LargeGlassofRed · 17/11/2009 19:54

ah I love it too,
Dt's are nearly five months and its so cute to see two pairs of eye's gazing up at you, they often hold hands and wrap their legs round each other too, so cute.

ChocOrange05 · 19/11/2009 09:33

This thread is making me smile, especially the thought of LargeGlassofReds DT's holding hands.

Does anyone else's DCs breastfeed on all 4s? DS is 1 and if he wants it and I am lying down (I just feed him in bed in the morning) - he crawls over and helps himself and then finally rests his head on my breast.

belindarose · 19/11/2009 11:17

I'm loving it too, after a really difficult start and 4 weeks of ebm. I LOVE the night feeds most of all! She's so content and gorgeous. I don't admit this to DH though - like him to imagine it's a chore getting up to her in the night, so that he feels the need to return the favour in some way!

I love it. My dd (16 weeks) has just started the habit of stopping mid-feed to grin at me contentedly.
Also love what me and dh call her "drunk monkey" look after a mammoth feeding session. Like "Where am I? What have I been doing for the last hour? I feel good!"

And it's great for forcing you to sit down and relax for a while however much there may be to do.

StealthPolarBear · 19/11/2009 12:36

DOes anyone else's baby do the "businesslike look" while feeding? Both mine have done it - rigid body, staring eyes, this is IMPORTANT.
Slowly mellows until by the end they are floppy and milk drunk.

ChocOrange05 · 19/11/2009 14:55

Stealth DS definitely has that look sometimes, the "don't bug me, I am concentrating" look! Its very very cute, but then I think all his looks are cute, even the one when he takes a small nibble with his teeth.

StealthPolarBear · 19/11/2009 14:58

yes that's it - the look DH does when he's on the computer

JaMmRocks · 19/11/2009 15:21

Stealth (hello!) DS2 definitely has the businesslike look going on. Sometimes accompanied by very determined noises

I also like it when he tries to look at my nipple and ends up cross eyed.
