Is this right? And if so what are they feeding these babies?

I've just come across this article:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_breastfeeding#cite_note-29

& the table near the bottom shows the uptake of exclusive breastfeeding around the world. Some of the figures are a bit out of date but I think it gives a reasonable picture.

Some of the lowest figures come from some of the least developed countries & the UK actually comes out quite well.

Am I being naive to think that women in countries like Niger wouldn't have great access to formula (I know a bit about the Nestle controversy but probably not enough)? And if not, what are they giving the babies?

Many traditional societies give herbs, other animal milks, grains and gruels to infants as a supplement to breastfeeding, mrsjuan.

Oh right Tiktok -so that's why it doesn't count as exclusive. I thought the thailand figure must have been down to something like that.

(Oh - and realise that not everyone in 'developing' countries is poor - hope i haven't offended)

That's a weird chart. What age of baby are they talking about? Because the UK stat looks to me like our rate of exclusive breastfeeding at 6 weeks or something. And it doesn't say whether they're even talking about exclusive BF.
