Domperidone, worth persevering with?

Hello

My little girl has reflux. the vomiting large amount after every feed kind. She also really struggles with pain, I think it is trapped wind, after almost every feed, for half an hour at least and sometimes it comes on later too.

I tried gaviscon but she didn't like it, wouldn't swallow it and so I stopped. The paediatrician then prescribed domperidone because she was very slow to regain her birth weight. I tried it for a while but I don't think it made any difference, she was sort of on it for 2 weeks but the problems were 1) as she was only taking a ml at a time I don' tthink she ever got very much 2) supposed to give 15 - 20 mins before a feed which was impossible. I refuse to leave her to scream for that amount of time as the wind she takes in doing that seems to negate the benefits. if I try to pre-empt it and give it to her before she is properly awake she just doesn't swallow it.

So...I stopped. She is still vomiting a lot and still in pain. I feel terrible seeing her suffer like she is and she is constantly damp from puking up all over! The HV saw her this week and insisted on weighing her only 20 mins after I fed her and she threw up three times, the HV was pretty concerned by the amounts.

Anyway...what to do? Has anyone had good expereicne of domperidone? how did you manage it? Anything else help?

ta.

Willow - sorry to hear about your dd's reflux - I know how awful it is. Is she bf or ff?

The nurses always recommended domperidone in SCBU when expressing affected the amount of milk. It certainly made a difference.

How old is your dd? Ds had terrible reflux - vomited every feed and struggled to put on weight. I used lots of muslins and changed him after every feed (sometimes twice after each feed). Ds varied between just throwing up and projectile vomiting. In the end his paed said he had to be weaned at 4 months in the hope that having something more solid would mean he could keep it down. It gradually helped and by about 8 months he stopped being sick so frequently.

Gaviscon, imho, was a waste of time and effort and had no effect at all.

sorry, not very clear, I am breast feeding her, she is taking the domperidone, not me...my supply is pretty good now. As this is my first baby I don't know it any other way but the health visitor keeps telling me it shouldn't be like this after feeds so that probably worries me more than anything.
