Introducing cows milk as a main drink

Ds1 is one next month and is bf. He is my last baby (I have 2 dd's).

I stopped bf dd2 at a year - I had started to introduce ff at 11 months as going back to work.

Ds1 has only been bf - does have cows milk in food and cereal etc.

Am intending to keep bf - ds1 only bfs first thing and last thing anyway - isn't bothered about bf unless sleepy - so intending to carry on for a while anyway - will see how it goes when I go back to work - but will start replacing feeds with whole milk in a cup.

My question is, as long as I am still bf - is it O.K. to start giving ds1 whole milk in a cup from now prior to moving him onto whole milk when 1+? Does it matter if I am still bf - as ds1 is nearly 1 anyway?

Any guidance and advice is welcome.

it should be fine especially as you will still be breastfeeding.

not a lot of use but when ds was 15 months had to give up feeding as was preg again, and so offered him milk in a cup and he refused it so he went without milk as drink until he was at least 3, but he got his calcium in other ways, cheese sauce, yog etc.

now dd2 is just 2 and she feeds only at night time, i cant get yog in her, she is milk allergic, and i guess when she needs it she will ask for it!!

i personally would continue to feed as long as he is happy and you are, twice a day is fine go with your instinct about giving up especially as he is your last! i would not over worry about the extra milk, because two feeds from you, cereal etc, i think is very good.

this is only my opinion so hope thats okay

I started DS2 on a cup of cow's milk at about 10 months. He was still BF at the time but had it with his breakfast.

I couldn't be bothered to buy formula

Thanks for your messages.

I suppose one of the reasons I want to get ds1 to drink a bit more milk during the day (he just won't bf) is to try and stop him snacking during the night - the dd's didn't but ds1 seems to be a different breed! .

Need to stop him waking at night for when I go back to work!
