Are jumper dresses and breastfeeding compatible?

Have always avoided dresses while bf but I really want a nice knitted jumper dress.

Am thinking if I get one with a lowish neck and very stretchy fabric maybe I can hoick a breast out through the neckline. Or is this impossible?
Thing is, I don't really like the ones with buttons at the neck or the wrap style ones .
Anyone have an opinion?
Thanks

if you hoik a boob out, the knit might be overstetched into infinity!!

If you went for a shorter tunic type dress, you could wear a breastfeeding vest underneath and hoick up the dress?

I know, BF is bugger when you want to look 'on trend'....!!!

RibenaBerry · 13/10/2009 10:53

Honestly? I think it's a recipe for a distorted neckline on your dress and uncomfortable feeding. I feel your pain though...

littleweed10 · 13/10/2009 10:57

generally I find it more discreet to hoick up a top rather than wap a boob out of the top of a dress. I have a lovely stretchy wrap dress I wear to BF but I am aware it looks a bit obvious when I pop a boob out of the neckline!!!

Hadn't thought about the overstretched neckline issue.
So probably not a good idea to do full-on dress, I should go for the tunic option over leggings.
Thanks

I quite like this, you could breast feed out one of the sleeves! I saw on a breast feeding website dresses that have large armholes to pull across and wear a long cardigan with it to cover up.

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 13/10/2009 13:48

That looks really fun Hellbent! It's too cool for me though - I couldn't carry it off.
Have ordered a fairly boring Boden tunic.

the boden tunic is nice!

Powdoc · 14/10/2009 09:34

I have the Boden tunic, but it doesn't unbutton low enough on me to feed through the top. I hoick it up (oh, I am sooo dignified).

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 09:48

can't be done

I tried and failed and eventually bought myself one as a weaning present

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 14/10/2009 09:57

Now why can't the NCT do a breastfeeding jumper dress in nice colours instead of that silly black thing for giving birth in?

I've gone for the Easy Winter Tunic, so I will have to lift up the whole thing. I won't wear it anywhere I'm going to have to bf elegantly in public.

I'm wearing one as I type.. I bought it about two years ago, but it sat neglected in my drawers until now as DS2 bf until 33m. BFing whilst wearing it never really worked!

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 10:10

oh oh Kathy stop the presses

MrsB has found it

suwoo · 14/10/2009 10:13

Ooh Mrs B, I bow down to you.

That is fabulous!

I may get the ASOS one as I am cool enough to carry it off

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 14/10/2009 10:29

Oh Mrs Badger you are clever.
Now which colour....?

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 10:37

more here, with prices to match if you can get over the awful name...

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 10:40

I'd dither between the plum and the brown

actually I am tempted to get one for the new year... maybe they'll have a sale [hopes]

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 14/10/2009 10:42

Now those are really lovely. Would that the exchange rate were different! PMSL @ 'milker' - maybe it sounds better in Danish.

I can't open that last link, it takes me back to mn.

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 12:10

ah that would be my fault

nice expensive but badly-named dresses

suwoo · 14/10/2009 12:40

There are some luvverly ones aren't there. I'll stick to my button down tea dresses for now. My budget is on more of a primarni level

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 12:42

I will confess I looked at some jumper dresses in Primark and thought for that price I could buy two and cobble them together to make one nursing version...

suwoo · 14/10/2009 13:21

.

I've got some from last season and am hoiking boobs out of the top of them no problem. The stretched look is fine

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 14/10/2009 13:53

Typical Mumsnet, just when you think you have a consensus someone comes along and disagrees

I avoided wearing dresses for all the time my dd was a baby due to bf. Now she is a toddler, she only bf at home first thing in the morning and bedtime, so my wardrobe has expanded.

However, I had something of a revelation when I wore this dress, which my mum got me for my birthday. The cowl neck is super stretchy and can be worn in various ways, and I guess if you're tall enough (I'm not) it could be worn as a long tunic rather than a dress. There are other cowl neck dresses on that particular site as well. HTH.

hoppybird · 14/10/2009 15:02

Hmm. Just remembered that I did have one nursing dress, this one in red which is very flattering, but not a jumper dress, however, the same site does sell this, which might meet your needs.
