as a midwife of many years I can reassure you that you CAN take paracetamol following the quantities on the box and i believe that from 3 months calpol is fine too...get a good nights sleep (ha ha ) if you can ...natures cure and paracetamol for both of (calpol is paracetamol for children)you may just help!Good Luck Diana xxx

Do you know about the Breastfeeding Network's Drugline and Information sheets? A great resource for any bf mum.

Hope you all feel better soon

You can always give your 3mo baby neurofen if you're worried...

Innat · 08/10/2009 19:52

How do they combine together? I supose there shouldn't be a problem if the baby is not taking Calpol (which is also paracetamol) but if he is.. wouldn't that mean that by breastfeeding him he will be getting a tiny bit extra paracetamol on top of the one he has already in?

Just wondering...

BertieBotts · 08/10/2009 19:57

Yes OrangeFish I thought that was the original question too...

BertieBotts · 08/10/2009 20:00

Although to be fair on the box of calpol, the dosage is "Half to one 5ml spoonful" for 3-12 month olds (Please check this first, I am not 100% sure) I always give the smaller dose recommended. If any extra was going in through the milk I doubt it would add up to more than another half spoonful.

OrangeFish · 08/10/2009 20:05

What about ibuprofen for the mother and calpol for the baby?

Innat · 08/10/2009 20:13

orangefish that's what i've done although the link to breastfeeding network paged said that as long as mother followed guidelines on box of paracetamol, unulikely to make much difference to baby even if he's had calpol.

Ah, ok

10 month dd has a terrible chesty cough/cold with high fever day 6 now..and so do I. I've been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol and giving him Calpol and ibuprofen. This feed has really helped me. Any other tips having lived through it?

Eminado · 10/12/2016 02:53

Froyal - do you have a humidifier?

Applesauce29 · 10/12/2016 04:24

Well after 8 week jabs they now recommend 3 doses of calpol regardless of temp!

The breastfeeding network has really good advice as pp mentioned. There's so much you can take that is ok (risk vs benefit) that the drug companies don't say you can because of licensing laws etc.
