DS is 15 months today and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. He only has 2 feeds a day, morning and evening and is only really for the comfort as I don't think I have much milk left. Coming under lots of pressure to stop but really don't want to as DS seems to draw such comfort from it. When he's feeding I can feel all the tension leave his body, plus it's the only time in the day I get to sit down and relax with him.

I can't comment particularly helpfully on your question, didn't manage to bf ds1 but after a struggle with ds2 initially, hope to continue for a while but not setting a time period. But I just wanted to say what a lovely description of how he responds to being fed. Why give up something that's obviously working so well for you both?

trinity, dd's night feeds are slowly reducing. Well they were but in this heat and with a cold it's upped again. I absolutely agree that I can't set some arbitrary rule like well yes you could have milk two hours ago but not now as the sun is in a different position in the sky. During the day I can explain that she needs to wait and we're busy and that's fine but I don't like the idea of witholding something from her that I can give so freely.

The only bits of bfing I actively dislike atm are the pain in my wrists (dd also very big and wriggly) from carpal tunnel where she ends up lying on my arms sometimes and sets it off. I also get rather irked with the twiddling of the other nipple while she feeds. Leaves me feeling a bit 'touched out' and want to be on my own with nobody touching me sometimes. Poor dh.

Glad you found your friend's dog.

wow, I'm very impressed at anyone who goes on over a year. I bf ds until a week after his first birthday and to be honest it was a struggle to get that far, but I was determined. I went back to work when he was 8 months old and I do shifts that vary massively, early starts, late starts, nights etc, so keeping a regular feeding pattern was impossible. I also do the sort of job that doesn't really allow any regular time to express, so keeping my supply going for a year was a minor miracle.
