Really lovely comment from a stranger....

I was on hols last week with family and on an excursion. Breastfed my slightly fractious 17 month old who is teething at the moment feeling vaguely aware that this may not be a popular move (my MIL not terribly supportive about extended BF). At the end of the trip a woman who I had chatted with a bit came and said how pleased she was that I was still bf as she is a neonatal nurse and feels bf is so important. It was a really lovely bit of validation from someone when I was really needed it. Rah for being supportive of mothers, not just those who bf obviously...

Where were you on holiday?

When dd1 was about a week old, a woman came up to me in tescos and said something very similar, adding that she hoped I'd feel able feed her until she was ready to wean because that was so important. All said in a kind and non-judgemental way.

Made such a huge difference to me.

I'd love it if someone said that to me - or anything positive.

In fact I was at butlins - possibly not the most BF friendly place in the world, and fed my 14mo (at the time) DS without raising any eyebrows, but when I saw a woman BF her much younger baby, clearly unsure of herself, I tried to catch her eye and smile but she was deliberately not looking around, so it seemed.

Anyway, we started chatting later about something different and I mentioned I had seen her feeding earlier and how nice it was to see I wasn't the only breastfeeder at butlins. She said she was very self conscious, but I assured her we couldn't see anything and that it was just a lovely thing to see. I think and hope it made her a bit more confident about it, so it was worth the risk of embarrassment

ChairmumMiaow, I recently went on a Haven caravan holiday with my DC and believe me, I was the only breastfeeder there.
