Well ds hasn't had a feed since last night and I have pretty much resigned myself to him not wanting bfs anymore. I was going to phase feeds out gradually but it seems he has other ideas. I'm not trying to maintain supply as I am ready to stop, but what can I do? I find expressing really difficult at the best of times, and I don't want to encourage further supply. But if I don't express I'll presumably get mastitis. Is it already too late?? I have a sore hard lump on the underside of my right breast, which is how mastitis has started each time I have had it

You won't necessarily get mastitis, even though lots of docs diagnose this with a blocked duct. According to Jack Newman blocked ducts often resolve by themselves within 3-4 days or less. Mine always did...

In the meantime, lots of warmth (hot compress or gel pack?), massage gently in a hot shower, wide toothed comb brushing along/down the lump, and lots of feeding on that side if and when he wants too - or express. ibuprofen can ease it too.

Good luck

sorry - didn't read properly. maybe take bfc advice about how to resolve this one?

Should I ring a helpline do you think? I'm a bit stressed out which probably isn't helping, dd has just got back from her holiday with nanny with a head full of nits

Blimey, my right nork is about to burst . I was at the GP with ds this morning and asked her what she suggested to help ease the engorgement without encouraging supply but she looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language She did give me some antibiotics in case it does turn into mastitis though so that is one less worry. It is just so painful I can't lift ds up because it hurts to even touch it. I am trying to express off just enough to ease the pain, and even tried to get ds to latch on but he is having none of it.

Bless you, I have had mastitis a few times and blocked ducts! I found that a hot bath helps and to massage the blocked duct then gradually over the next week you could just do this when they become blocked, before you know it the milk supply would have reduced!!
