Feeding lying down on a memory foam topper?

Hi
I am expecting my second DC in 2 weeks , by C-Section and am hoping to breastfeed lying down in bed as I did with DD1. I have a memory foam topper on the bed now. Does anyone know if this makes it more difficult? Do I need to take it off (sob) I hope not as it is sooo comfortable. I am not planning to co-sleep, but of course if I or the baby fall asleep whilst feeding I guess it is a possibility.

sounds perfect. i had ds1 and ds2 by c-section then continued to breast feed after appendectomy all lying down. wish i'd had memory foam topper as surely this stops baby rolling backwards / forwards. But probably need expert advice re co-sleeping. I did fall asleep a lot (hmmmmm pain-killers) and it always freaked me out when i woke up.

I'm not certain, but I would imagine memory foam to be a bit like sofa, cushions, pillows? If it's something the baby could sink into then there is a risk of suffocation and co-sleeping on softer surfaces is known to be a big risk factor.

Ahh so it sounds like it may be ok for feeding, but not for co-sleeping?

I read that somewhere too Bedlam. We took off our memory foam topper to allow co-sleeping but I suppose if you can guarantee you won't fall asleep mid-feed it would be ok. I really missed my memory-foam though - it is so cosy!

I read that it causes overheating and found it was too soft, causing dips that dd rolled into. Our memoryfoam mattress has (as of last night) gone to the spare room and we have just bought a less comfortable very firm mattress instead .

WRT feeding, I found it so soft that it was tricky feeding as DD would roll past my nipple!

Thanks for the advice all. Ours is only a topper, with a very firm mattress underneath. I think I will just give it a try when we get back from hospital and if it is causing us problems, will relegate it to the spare bed (sob).
