Decongestant and supply

A week or so ago I posted asking advice about DD's dry nappies (which she still has, occasionally, in between the sopping wet ones, so who knows what's going on there!). Someone asked if I was taking decongestants. I wasn't at the time but for the past three days have had a hellish cold so have been dosing myself up with a Lemsip type thing. Last night DD fed what seemed like all night - I'd just wake up and switch sides occasionally. Have I buggered up my supply or is there a nearly-8-month growth spurt I don't know about?

The irritating thing is that I don't take them for the decongestant, just the paracetamol (I feel as though I've been beaten with sticks).

TIA

Got off my lazy arse and did a search - BfN advice. Will give them a miss for now.

Perhaps just take paracetamol instead

Also think about Olbas oil in the bath.

But it probably is a growth spurt. Either way, the half life of decongestants is only a few hours so within 12 hours you shouldn't be affected (nor your milk supply). Though you probably won't be able to get pregnant (interesting side effect of drying up of mucous membranes that one)

Not being able to get pg is not a concern right now

Yeah, think I'll switch to paracetamol and just stick some lemon and honey in boiling water. Maybe a nip of whiskey too

I hope it is a growth spurt. I was guiltily wondering if it was because DD only got two meals yesterday because I felt too ill to make her (or me) and dinner

I asked a pharmacist for advice of what (if anything) I could take for congestion once (I wouldn't usually bother but I was getting married and wanted to feel well). He gave me Sudafed and assured me it was fine for bf mothers. I trusted him, took it and noticed that my ds became very fractious and my breasts became tender. After some research (BFN website) I found the info you just linked to. I was fuming and complained to him. When pushed he admitted that it could cause problems with suppky but he idn't perceive this to be a problem as my ds was older (15 months).

So yes, paracetamol, honey and lemon and some vicks in a bowl of hot water are the best options.
