9 weeks fussy at the breast

Hi,

My DD who is 9 weeks seems to be fussy at feeding time- sort of grunting ! and shaking her head- she also seems to be chomping down on me a bit which hurts a bit. I can't see any evidence of teeth or anything
(but my DD1 was similar to this teething- and then a tooth would just appear- she was 5 months though when she had a tooth). Does anyone have any ideas what this could be or any advice for me (please) ?

Thanks

Hi, I have had the exact same problem with my Son who is now 10 weeks old. I mentioned this to my health visitor as I was worried that he was starting to get frustrated cause maybe he wasn't getting any milk after suckling for about 15mins (as this is when he starts acting like this). She told me that one likely thing is that for the first few minutes he was getting the formilk which is really easy to obtain and then when the hindmilk comes through he has to work a bit harder for it.
I'm finding this hard to believe as he previously fed ok.
Unfortunetly I have now introduced formula as he just just seems to be hungry all the time after feeding from the breast
This probably isn't alot of help so I am also interested in the replies from others as I would love to be able to go back to full time breast feeding as I am still partially feeding him from the breast

weird-this is what I came on to ask about. My little boy (7 weeks) has started to fuss more than usual-has always had a little burst of bouncing up and down on my nipple and waggling it in his mouth from time to time , but now is starting to make his crying face whilst latched on, and my breast FEELS empty at the time. At every feed he is taking both sides until they are both empty (or feel that way). I have a crap health visitor and don't know who to ask-he has only gained 2 ounces this week (he's below the 25th centile weight wise and at the 25th height wise...)
I too would appreciate some wisdom.

I have had the same thing with my DS (8 wks) and I have put it down to wind, as it normally seems to be linked. However, sometimes when I can't seem to solve the problem through winding, I have just swapped breasts which seems to help. It seems to happen for a few feeds in a row and then be fine for a while. Oddly enough, I am also supplementing with formula as well as breastfeeding (3 bottles a day, straight after a BF) as DS wasn't gaining any weight. He is doing fine now, but maybe the fussing IS due to lack of milk????

thanks-not wind...changing sides does help but then he will end up fussing on the other after a while. I assume that to up my supply I feed more often?

brewsterbear, re-readin your original post, I should have also said that my DS has been doing that grunting and shaking thing since day one-it's his way of working out wind (very sucessfully). I posted about it before and no one else seemed to have had much experience of it and just said that if it didn't hurt then not to worry too much about it. I've not been since then! His recent "fussing" has been different, as he seems frustrated and gets worked up.
