Hi there

DS is 3 months old. I am doing 4 day-time BFs and 1 FF (at 11pm) a day. I want to keep my supply up (NB. there is no sign yet that supply is dwindling) so want to give him both breasts at each feed.

Thing is in the morning (around 7am) he only takes one breast (left) and isnt interested at all in the other. i know this is because in the morning supply tends to be greater so he is getting full up with just one. But this means he isnt getting the other until 3/3.5 hours later and the last time he fed on it was 7pm the day before.

Can I swap which breast to start on each day, of will it confuse my body?

Thanks very much

sorry, forgot to say...or should I not worry and my body will just get used to the fact that he doesnt feed on the right breast until 10.30/11am each day?

after 3 months I should think you're pretty well established so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm impressed that you know which side he starts on every day!

it helps with the rest of the day if i know which side i start the day with!

sorry, so i shouldnt worry if he doesnt feed off both breasts at breakfast??

I would swap sides - it shouldn't confuse things

Bump for Starlight's question. I think night feeds are important for maintaining your supply but that could be an old wives' tale I've picked up from somewhere I am impressed with you knowing how many feeds your DS is taking at three months - DD is 7.5 months and I have absolutely no idea how many feeds she has day or night!

Twelve hours between breastfeeds does sound like quite a long time to me (from a supply POV), but I'm no expert

Hi

I am feeding him to a sort schedule every 3 -3.5 hours depen dependinding on naps but if he wants feeding before I always feed him. very often i need to wake him up for a feed! I also always swap between breasts at the end of each feed. it means the feeds are slightly longer but I am hoping it helps a bit.

Yes, I have heard night feeds are important for supply because of hormones etc but he dropped this at 8 weeks and so far (touch wood!) my supply has been fine. I was expressing at 11pm but have stopped this now. if i think my supply is reducing I will start this again.

i was thinking that swapping breasts on alternate days at breakfast may just help a little bit with supply but am a bit confused as to whether this will help or it will just confuse my body...?
