Here's a corker from my paper today: here

Muffle, you have put into words exactly the reasons why a BFer would be asked to leave our pool.We have several comfy seats, playpen and toys, just yards away from the pool edge,so why would anyone choose to feed in the pool?
If a child/baby puked in the pool and it was seen and reported, everyone would have to leave the pool while it was investigated.

AnarchyAunt · 15/05/2009 11:44

But she wasn't in the pool according to the link. She was sat on the side wrapped in a towel.

muffle · 15/05/2009 11:48

So would you sit and eat an ice cream in the pool? It's hardly shit or piss either - what has that got to do with anything? It's against the rules, for a valid reason, and it's perfectly easy to get out and do it a short distance away.

I find it a bit strange to say that just because something isn't as bad as the shit and piss that may exist in the pool in small amounts, then there's no problem. Besides the rules, it's just good manners that you don't eat a cream cake in the pool or pick your nose and flick it in the pool or hoik up a bit gobbet of spit in the pool. If someone was asked to stop doing those things while you were having a swim would you be impressed if they said "well I bet there's shit in the pool and it's not as bad as that"? of course not!

I really don't think this attitude of "I am BFing so everyone can make way for me and kiss my ass" is very helpful. You can still have some manners and show some respect, while of course insisting on being able to BF in public.

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2009 12:20

But people do poo and wee in the pool - tiny babies. They seem to be exempt from the usual social niceties
muffle I hope that wasn't directed at me. As I have already said, I think this should apply to ff babies too. I like to think I always show respect.

muffle · 15/05/2009 12:21

No not directed at anyone, just that attitude in general.

I either have pmt or am up the duff today. Sorry.

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2009 12:24

That's very casual - is this going to turn into a "waiting for test results" thread?

muffle · 15/05/2009 12:32

Well, it's been pmt for 18 months so I'm not holding my breath! But last time I was pg I was an argumentative cow, first symptom. So you never know.

PuppyMonkey · 15/05/2009 12:50

Muffle, her other son was still swimming in the pool. I think that's why she didn't want to go to the private room as suggested. Course, yes, she could have taken him out and brought him to the private room too - but presumably the baby was kicking off and stuff so she thought that would be too much faff!

muffle · 15/05/2009 12:54

I don't think she should have gone to the private room if she didn't want to - just sat away from the water.

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 15/05/2009 12:59

I have issues with bm being categorised as a bodily fluid tbh. It's not in the same league as snot surely? As long as she wasn't in the water then I can't see the problem and they were just being arses.

PuppyMonkey · 15/05/2009 13:00

Not really arguing. But.... She was sat at the side of the pool, not in the water...

Are people saying that if they were thirsty while swimming and someone brought them a glass of water they wouldn't sit at the side of the pool to drink it? I would, didn't realise that would be frowned on.
Plus, pools in holiday resorts tend to be surrounded by people eating and drinking!

This is ridiculous and ignorant, I can't believe the council then voices its stupidity 'out loud' what a bunch of wankers. What is it with people who work in Leisure centres? I take my DS to swimming lessons in the YMCA and the people who work there are wankers too - better take my photo off my profile in case they're on here. They got some new sofas in the cafe and then tried to ban children -who are fully fledged members from sitting there coz they didnt want them ruined! they said we should sit in the balcony bit they hadnt done up. Trouble is the balcony overlooks a sheer drop of about 30ft and the barrier is only 1m high -I went mad, asked them if theyd done a risk assesment (that stumped them) and wrote to the director and cc'd anyone the YMCA is associated with- to utterly expose them as complete and utter twats - camden council, the chairman, the board of trustees, frank dobson - They backed down - hurray!!! acknowledging that the dangerous balcony was not the best place 4 kids! And the moral is - if any of you get harrassed by idiots make sure you write to the boss and crucially CC everyone that boss reports to or has dealings with - DIVIDE AND CONQUER!
