Is DD dehydrated?

DD is 7.5 months, bfed and we've been doing BLW for six weeks, which was going well (two meals a day) except she's had a stinking cold/croup for the last couple of days so not eating much. She's always been a heavy wetter and is in cloth during the day but disposables at night because we hadn't found a cloth nappy that would go 10+ hours. When I changed her out of her overnight nappy this morning, it was really light and still had a good few hours' wear in it, rather than being huge, swollen and heavy. A nappy I changed her out of on Monday (before she was ill) was bone-dry after 2.5 hours.

Do they just stop peeing less at this stage or is she dehydrated? I am a bit worried

TIA

Sorry I can't help, but bumping for you.

This isn;t normal for babies in general, and for yours in particular from what you say, Dita...she needs a doc's opinion, I think but common sense suggests she needs more fluids offered all the time, especially as she's been poorly and this often does mean babies eat and drink less.

Oh dear - thanks Tiktok. She was on the boob for most of yesterday evening (I was amazed when I read somewhere that cluster feeding stops at three months!) and what felt like most of last night (we co-sleep and I remember trying to prise her off a couple of times, only for her to cry and be put back on again). I've suffered from over-supply if anything for most of my bfing career so would be surprised if it's a supply issue, though I did get up and pump 3 oz the other morning because she'd barely fed through the night and my boob was huge and sore. Been offering that to her in a sippy cup but she is extremely suspicious of me putting anything near her mouth after two days of trying to get nasty medicine into her. Sigh. Off out - to breastfeeding group! - now but will keep an eye on her and this thread.

Might pop round to see my dad (retired GP) too, as it's the quickest way of seeing a doc, though he is ridiculously laid back and will probably say all is fine. She seems quite cheerful and alert fwiw.

All probably is fine - healthy babies recover from minor illness very quickly and older babies can manage a spell of minor dehydration perfectly well (I'm not a doctor - but just using experience and common sense )

By any chance you don't have the cold too and used some decongestant? Just occurred to me.

Thanks (again) Tiktok. Wasting - no - miraculously! (I usually get everything going) - I've managed to avoid this one completely
