When to add a bottle of EBM?

My DD is just over two weeks' old.

I am exclusively breast feeding, and I am obviously looking some way down the line, but I can see that there is going to come a point where I need some 'me time' and will want to leave DH with a bottle of EBM - or more likely just get a longer stretch of uninterupted sleep.

I know that you are told not to use a bottle in the early stages, but is there any rough rule of thumb as to when it is ok to introduce one? Realise it may be some weeks down the line, but I'd like to float the idea with DH in advance.

Hi, I gave my DS a bottle of EBM for the first time at the age of 6 weeks. He was fine with it and continued to BF exclusively after also. I must admit i only gave him the bottle a couple of times if at weddings or long days out etc.
Good luck

Around 6-8 weeks, but if you have/had any issues best to leave it a little bit later just to be on the safe side.

Also you may need to pump at first when the bottle is given, a- to keep your supply going and b- to prevent waking with horrendous engorgement when your breasts realise your baby is well overdue a feed! I made this mistake at 10 weeks ish and it was not nice, but luckily was ok and didn't seem to affect my supply.

I did it at 4 weeks on advice of hv and also other bf-ing mums I know and it was fine - we did it to let me sleep early evening. Dd now 12 weeks and still okay - there was never any of the 'nipple confusion' that many dolefully warned me about!!
