I am hoping to breastfeed my 4th child. My 1st baby i BF for 6 months 2nd for two years my 3rd baby Henry unfortunately passed away after a premature labour.I am now pregnant again and concerned that i may not be able to breastfeed and am very worried as i loved it so much. Had very happy contented babies. Im just wondering if anyone else had been succesful at Breastfeeding after having a boob job.

Hiya, congrats on you pregnancy, I'm sorry to hear about Henry

When you say 'boob job' do you mean implants? I'm not an expert, but having had breast surgery myself, afaik, usually having implants should not effect your ability to make milk or breastfeed. However, sometimes breast uplifts/ reductions/ other surgery can do so, depending on the type of surgery involved, eg) whether the nipple was removed, milk ducts cut away etc

Hi and congratulations

Kellymom has a bit to say on the subject. It sounds like you will be fine. It would be good to talk it over with a BF counsellor in advance, then you could get an idea of any signs of problems to look out for etc.

Very sorry to hear about Henry

Your local LLL or NCT groups might be able to put you in touch with someone.

mummylight - sorry to hear about Henry - I just thought it might be helpful to point out that there is a celebrity (who is now known as an extended bf-er), who has clearly managed bf post augmentation.

How the surgery was done can play a role in how successful breastfeeding will be. Did your doctor ask if you planned to breastfeed in the future? This will often effect the decision for placement and usually by having the implant under the muscle you have less issues with feeding.
Even if they weren't done that way, many women will still be able to breastfeed....partially if not completely. Often it is just a matter of doing it and seeing how things go.

I had sub-muscular implants put in through the nipple and I am currently feeding my 13 month old with no problems.

who is that hoppybird?

Olihan · 09/05/2009 12:13

Nell MacAndrew?

hoppybird · 09/05/2009 14:21

Well, it's certainly not Katie Price! ;)

Yes, it's Nell (and also Melinda Messenger, I understand).

Thank you all for taking the time to comment. You have put my mind at ease. It sounds as though i shouldn't have any probs bf. My surgeon did ask me if there was a poss for bf more children in the future, and i said perhaps so fingers crossed xxx

I had implants under the crease after dd2. I've just had dd3 and I'm producing milk as before....so I don't think the surgery has done any damage.
