Breast feeding in public should be normalised. I think this would help:

We mix fed so no 'lactivism' here but I do believe that Mum's choice to breast feed should be as protected and as publicised as possible to make it as normal as formular feeding has become.

Got an email from Breast Feeding Manifesto people saying that ....

...Last week the Government?s Equality Bill was published in full and we are delighted to announce that it includes protection against discrimination for women who breastfeed in public.

We need your urgent help to ensure that this part of the Bill gets as much support as possible. The Bill will be debated in Parliament on Monday 11th May and we need you to ask your MP to support the clause related to breastfeeding.

You can do this by clicking here and sending your MP the prewritten email calling for their support

I was asked to stop feeding in Debenhams once. I wish I could have replied with "do you know its against the law for you to stop me feeding?"

Just had this response to my email...

''Rest assured I will be supporting the clause on breastfeeding and so will all my Lib Dem colleagues.

Yours sincerely,

Phil''

Bless!
Hoorah for Phil Willis, who is obviously trying to get over his recent embarassing incident with Joanna Lumley!

I brought up the thing about the protection only being till 6 months on another thread, but was told that actually the new maternity bit covers you for babies below 6 months and existing law (I think it was sex discriminatin, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly) covers you for babies older than that. Still bloody stupid though and sends out completely the wrong message.

(On the other hand, it's where I suddenly have a plus point to ds2 being sooo teeny for his age. He is almost a year, but no-one bats an eyelid at him feeding as he only looks the size of a slightly bigger than average 6 month old).

Phil Willis is not Joanna Lumley's 'pal' - that was Phil Woollas

Phil Willis is a LibDem, not a minister.

It would be good to see ministers supporting the bill.

oh gods how embarassing, I only heard it on the radio

StealthPolarBear · 11/05/2009 09:02

Done, thanks!

I was BF ds2 (5mo) in ASK yesterday and the manager asked me to move to the upstairs bit which had no other customers in. I politely declined
was a bit annoyed but are they are within their rights to do that? she wasn't saying i couldn't feed him, just wanted me to move to a different table!

StealthPolarBear · 11/05/2009 13:09

Well I don't think it will ever be illegal to ask but I bet if this comes in she wouldn't dare!
It's easy to think of responses afterwards, but if anyone ever asks I'm going to try to remember to say "No thanks, I'm fine here, and I'm doing my bi for normalising bf in public"
