Teeth and sore nipples but NOT biting

akimbu · 05/05/2009 07:50

My DD is 7 and half months, has two lower teeth and suddenly in the last 3 days my nipples have got so sore, feeding is making me wince and clench my jaw. She is not biting me and nothing seems to have changed so I don't know what's changed!!

I woke up my boyf last night cos I cried out when she latched on. I was thinking this morning maybe you need to latch a baby with teeth differently. They need to learn a new technique or I need to do something differently?

Don't suggest a cup or bottle of expressed milk or formula - we don't do that!

Thanks! x

Could you be pregnant?

akimbu · 05/05/2009 12:09

OMG! Really??? It has coincided with noticing a lot of runny goo between my legs the last 3 mornings too but I was going to mention that! WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!!!

Ah. Runny goo is probably cervical fluid in the run up to ovulation. Have you been having periods or could this be them returning?

Ovulation can make nips a bit sensitive.

I've had this a few times, no sign of any periods as yet though and DS is over 9 months.

I think DS sort of rubs his gums against my nipple when he's teething. It's not a bite but it IS sore. In my experience it only (!) lasts a few days and then things settle down again so hang in there!

Panic on! I was frisky as anything this morning! No, no periods yet but if what Mawbroon says is right then I'm ovulating. Jees, we want a number 2 but I don't think I'm ready yet!!!

I find that whenever mine get new teeth that it takes a while for them to 'relearn' their latch.
I have found it settles down, you just have to be vigilent that they are going on well and unlatch them if they don't look like they have a deep latch.

hi there! for those who are interested...I got my period this morning! V sad cos I like not having periods but at least that explains it!
Thanks for pointing in the right direction. x

I know you've resolved the issue but i wanted to add i am havign a terrible time with ds's sharp teeth. he has 8 - 4 up, 4 down, is 9mo and isn't biting (did a few times at 5mo but not since). What seems to have happpened is that I wasn't vigilent enough and i got chafed in the same place all the time and now I have a horrid little gash on the areola. Am mostly trying to feed in rugby ball hold or with him standing up but bedtime and night feeds need to be more normal for soothing sleep inducing purposes so am having to rock gently and grit my teeth. rather like the first few weeks though a different sort of / location of pain.

mawbroon · 09/05/2009 20:11

akimbu, good that you have the answer! Hopefully the soreness has passed now?

alittlebitshy - do you lie down at the bedtime feed? If so, I know this sounds daft, but you could lie down in opposite directions so he is upside down in relation to you, but still lying down to feed. It might relieve the soreness a bit.
