Does anyone still maek bottles up in advance?

When I had my first 2 DC now age 8 and 10 we were told that you could make bottles up 24hours in advance as long as they were kept in the fridge.

I am now prg with number 3 and it seems the advice is now that you should just make bottles up as and when you need them.

Can anyone explain why the advice has changed? and does everyone do this because to me it seems like a logisical nightmare!

I cool water in advance and store the water but try not to make up the bottles in advance. I am in a hot country though so feel that is relevant. I am comfortable making them up to an hour before I need them but not more. I use the ready made up packets quite a lot, can't be bothered with powder out and about, they are great.

I do 3 at a time.

the advice has changed because scientists discovered that a significant amount of formula milk contained potentially harmful bacteria which can only be killed by using water over 70 degrees in temp to mix it with. I ca't answer the second part of your question though, sorry.

but wether you make the bottles up in advance or not the water you use to make them is still going to be above 70 degrees. Its just you then cool them down and store in the fridge.

And you must still have to cool it down even if not making in advance because you can't feed a baby a bottle that hot.

I'm not disagreeing with the advice just trying to understand the reasoning behind it.

This might all be irrelevant anyway as hoping to breastfeed but at the moment i'm taking meds which mean i wouldn't be able to. Just hoping that the level of my meds will be reduce enough by the time i give birth so that i can breast feed.

You can make a bottle immediately.

eg. for 6oz bottle:

Make up and store 3oz bottles of boiled water in the fridge.

When it is time for a feed pour in 3oz boiled water from kettle.

Add 6 scoops of formula powder, shake.

Add one of your fridge bottles.

Voila!
