newbaby - hang on in there No reason why it should have a long term effect, unless you (or he!) repeats the exercise. Just stay close to your baby and she will 'come back' to you

fannybanjo · 01/05/2009 20:28

I had to do this with DD3 when she was a day old, she was so hungry and I was at the end of my tether. She has had no adverse effects from it and I am still BF 3 months on exclusively. Don't worry.

newbabyjustarrived · 01/05/2009 20:30

but shes experienced easy flow latex! will she not go off me?

Had you (and your dh) agreed or discussed your opinions re ff? You don't specify, but it sounds like you would rather have continued with exc bf? (sorry if I have misunderstood)

Perhaps your dh didn't understand that was your preference or didn't understand the implications of introducing ff/a bottle?

fwiw my dd2 had frequent bottle feeds from 3 weeks or so (but in our case it was ebm)and didn't "go off" me in the slightest.

I think the best thing is for you to continue with the bf if that is your choice, and have a conversation with your dh as to how he made the choice he did etc. Also reach an agreement as to the best course of action if he is in the same position again.

thisisyesterday · 01/05/2009 20:41

she won't go off you after one bottle

IheartNY · 01/05/2009 20:43

Sounds like the formula was there for such a situation, seeing as you had bottles ready and he knew how to make up etc.
Now you've realised thats not what you want, put them all away out of sight and have a chat with dh about not using formula at all going forward.
one bottle wont hurt though, dont wory.

fandango75 · 01/05/2009 20:52

formula isn't the devils piss you know

when you see grown people walking down the street do you think 'oh she was breast fed and he wasn't tut tut'

trip trap trolling???

thisisyesterday · 01/05/2009 20:59

calm down fandango!!!

some of us just don't like giving formula. my first was formula fed, ds2 has never had a drop pass his lips.

if you have issues please don't project them onto the rest of us

fandango75 · 01/05/2009 21:03

i have no issues

i breast fed and formula fed

the feeds make it sound like 'oh no, panic pani my baby had formula' like its the worst possible thing which I think is naive and wrong

thisisyesterday · 01/05/2009 21:07

no, the OP wanted to know whether it would affect breastfeeding as her child didn't seem interested in it after the bottle.

she's just a worried mum. give her a rbeak

HeinzSight · 01/05/2009 21:10

the OPs baby is just 10 days old, she's worried that her baby won't want to feed from her now that she's had 'fast flow' milk through a teat. The fact that it's formula I think is irrelevent.

newbaby, I hope you feel reassured. Tiktok is tiptop when it comes to BF advise

Congrats by the way

BecauseIveSnuffedIt · 01/05/2009 21:12

If breast feeding is so important to you (good on you!), why were you 'nipping out' if you thought that your DD might have needed to be fed? Shouldn't your DH be running any errands for you?

I doubt your supply will be affected, and I'm sure she will prefer you to rubber/latex/plastic.

fandango75 · 01/05/2009 21:13

maybe she's better off asking a midwife then, or someone qualified....

well fandango, perhaps the OP knew that there are several breastfeeding counsellors on this site.

she was lucky enough that her first response was from one of them- tiktok.

HeinzSight · 01/05/2009 21:17

fandango75 there are lots of qualified people on mn, don't knock it or the OP

HeinzSight · 01/05/2009 21:17

exactly thisisyesterday.

pippylongstockings · 01/05/2009 21:18

I agree one bottle or two of formula won't hurt.
I b/f both my DS1 for 10 months and DS2 for 18 months - but with my DS1 my HV told me not to mix feeds before 6 weeks if I wanted to establish bf 'properly' I took it as a written law and had a lovely baby but one that wouldn't take a bottle ever!!! Which was not what I wanted at all. It is pretty useful to know you can leave them if you need to.
But I can understand that at only 10 days old it can all seem pretty worrying that you are doing it right. Keep on doing what your doing.

HeinzSight · 01/05/2009 21:18

Are you OK newbaby?

fandango75 · 01/05/2009 21:22

so how exactly are we supposed to know when someone is qualified or not...?

all just look like posts

onepieceofcremeegg · 01/05/2009 21:22

I hope/imagine that with a 10 day old baby (congratulations btw) that newbaby is snuggled up somewhere with the new baby enjoying a long evening of cluster feeding?

fishie · 01/05/2009 21:25

fandango75 maybe when you have been here a bit longer....

HeinzSight · 01/05/2009 21:25

I gather you're new to this site fandango? Tiktok is VERY well known here for being a breastfeeding counsellor.
