does anyone know, does latch change when teeth come through?

Hi there,

DD is 8.5 months and still bf along with solids. Her first 2 teeth have appeared in the last month, and since around the same time I've started having trouble with a blocked milk duct. First it was a lump, got that cleared, now I've got a milk blister, getting bigger, feeding starting to get really painful again on that side.

I have a vague idea what to do about the blister, and hopefully can get it sorted before the dreaded mastitis strikes (ended up in hosp with that, prepped for surgery, after stopped feeding DS).

Just wondered, why now? Is it a coincidence, or could DD's latch have changed since her teeth appeared? Am I going to have to reteach her how to do it?

Anyone else out there had anything similar happen to them? If so, what did you do?

yes I had very similar and it sorted itself out eventually - I think a lot of it was that I just got used to it being different and a bit sore. I think their latch may change slightly when their teeth come through but hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will come on and tell you.

I fed for two years my sons did change but settled back down on their own I think it is more because at first their mouths are sore so they are latching differently. But it should get better

In my experience, yes. Both of mine got teeth quite early (first teeth before 3 months, and ds had 8 teeth by 5 months). Each time they have got a couple more we have had to readjust our latch and a few times have had a painful week or so until we worked out how best to feed with the new teeth.

I find that the teeth themselves seem to settle down when they aren't brand new.

Thanks for that, people. Now to sort out the milk blister...

Was just a bit confused about what was going on. Stopped feeding DS way before teeth (back to work, nowhere to express, just didn't work out), so not done this before. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly until past month. Guess I'll just have to perservere and see if we can change the latch any to help.

Just working up the courage to get the needle to this blister now, and we'll be laughing
