Constant posseting in 18week old

My 18 week old DD has been posseting more and more over the last two weeks (prior to this she hardly brought up anything at all) and today its like a constant stream from her mouth - we've both had several changes of clothes. She's a very snuffly baby but that doesn't seem to bother her at all, however I've noticed some lumps of snot (sorry if tmi)in what she's bringing up today. She often has a bit of a whinge when she's being sick, but seems happy apart from that.

Should i be worried about this or do you just think its a phase that will pass?

She's breast fed and her weight gain is very good (has jumped from 91st to 98th centile in last 4 weeks)

Is she bringing up any wind prior to being sick? Young BF babies dont tend to 'need' winding as they suck at thier own pace, but as they get older sometimes its just worth winding them a little to see if they do bring anything up.

Is the mucus green? If not I wouldnt worry, probably due to her 'cold' ish like mannor, (you said shes always been snuffly) but if it is, then take her to see GP as this is sign of infection somwhere. i.e sinuses.

Id probably say she has a cold if shes sicking up 'snot'. They do this when they've swallowed too much mucus as you probably know babies cant 'cough' to bring it all up so most of it gets swallowed and stored in belly, until milk goes down and cant settle.

Is she 'snotty' in her nose iygm?

hi thanks for response Chellesgirl. Sometimes she brings up wind before she's sick and sometimes she doesn't. I tend to just sit her up after feeding and she usually has a good burp without me patting her or anything but maybe I should be making more of an effort to make sure she's got all her wind up.

She's always snotty in her nose, but the mucus that's coming up has a slight green tinge to it. She's got grumpier as the day's gone on today and this evening she's had a temperature, which went down again after some calpol and her bath. I think i'll take her to the doctor tomorrow to get her checked out.

yeh I would, just to get the little one checked out. You might just nip it in the bud, been as its just 'slightly' tinged green.

If she has a raised temp, most likely shes got some sort of bacteria somewhere. Could just be sinus infection.

Can she breathe fine? No snorting or 'snoring' when shes asleep?

greensnail · 30/04/2009 19:40

breathing's fine once she's asleep, snuffles the rest of the time but stops when she's sleeping which is good. She used to get so snuffly she had to sleep in bouncy chair but hasn't been like that for a couple of months, thank goodness.

my dd was like that to start with. She has cows milk protein intolerance/lactose too though.

She still has her haid propped up and shes 14 months!

I think she seriously might have caught a cold. Dont think doc will prescribe anything like antibiotics. Just normally saline drops and you may need to get a bulb to suction her nose if she does get really snotty.

She may have an allergy to the dust. (dust you cant see) in the house. My HV used to say this is what caused dd's snufflyness all the time. Babies are v.sensitive to it.
Have you got a humidifier?

greensnail · 01/05/2009 13:19

She's much happier this morning so we didn't bother going to the doctor - our baby music group proved to be better medicine!

I think you're right about the cold - i was feeling rotten yesterday too which wasn't helping so she probably just had a bit of what i've got. Hope its not swine flu
We have a nasal aspirator which is brilliant.

Maybe i should be dusting and hoovering instead of spending my time on mumsnet if its the dust which is the problem. Last time it got really bad was when we'd been on lots of country walks with her in the sling so i suppose it could be a bit of hay fever too. Apparently DH and I were both very snuffly babies too so it might just be one of those things we have to wait for her to grow out of.

Im glad that she is alot better today!

Whenever i have a runny nose, dd gets one too. Anything actually, if she gets it, i get it and vise versa.

I said the swine flu thing about dd today, too! Shes been quite poorly with a cold from teething 4 teeth at same time...and the little girl who i nanny came back from school yesterday and said a boy in her class had been quarenteened at home by hosp after coming back from mexico 2 days ago, school wont let him back! He only lives down the road too!

greensnail · 01/05/2009 15:22

Ooh scary, i'm sure its just her teeth though.
I should have known what was wrong with her yesterday, it was all just getting on top of me a bit as i was feeling so rubbish and sleep-deprived. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it
