Blocked-duct - help, 26 hour flight looming!!

Hello
I have had a painful breast for the last 5-6 days which started with the appearance of a small white spot at the end of the nipple - like a small pimple, but with no discharge. I have been BFing DD for 3 months now, all has gone well.
I suspect blocked duct - I can self-express after warm shower and massage, and DD can latch on. Even now I am finding the latch REALLY SORE for the first few minutes, then it feels better. It is only the nipple area which is painful, not the rest of the breast. When not feeding, the breast feels tender, but not really painful.
The white spot is still there but DD can feed from it OK. I spoke to a health visitor over the phone yesterday who suspected thrush, but DD doesnt have any white spots (cottage cheese etc appearance?) in her mouth or displays any other symptoms and neither do I. She suggested starting canestan just in case which I did last night by cream on the nipple - no change as of yet. (She assured me it would be harmless even if I didnt have thrush)

I am flying out tonight to NZ on a non-stop flight which I am starting to panic about.
If it is a blocked duct, would it be usual to still be quite painful at the latch on for this length of time (5-6 days) I think it is getter less painful, but this might be me wishful thinking! If it is usual to have pain lasting up to a week then I can cope with that.
If it is thrush would it be possible for DD not to have any white spots etc in mouth?

Can anyone think of anything else it could be?!
Do I need to see a Dr. when I arrive in NZ?
Please help!

My SIL had thrush on her breast but her DS never had it in his mouth, she suffered recurrently from it.

Get to the GP, they will prescribe cream for your breast, a gel for your baby to PREVENT thrush for him and a course of anti-biotics.

Sounds like it could be a milk blister?
Kellymom has info on this. I had a small one once and it was sore. I am a manky picky person so after DS had fed I popped it (with clean fingers!). A 'plug' emerged and it went away.

This may not be what you have, could indeed be thrush, in which case you would indeed need a doc in NZ to prescribe meds for this.

Keep up with the massage and heat, read the kellymom info on milk blisters and have a nice time in NZ!
