How to get a formula-refusing baby to take anything but breastmilk?

My son is 6 months next week, and absolutely refusing to touch formula. The face he makes is really pretty funny, with the combined disgust and disbelief, but less funny is the reality that I can't get him to accept anything but breastmilk, and I was planning to partially wean as of 26 weeks. I was wondering if mixing say 1/4 formula with 3/4 ebm might do the trick? I'm just reluctant to waste that much ebm, if he refuses it still. Also not sure that formula and ebm are interchangeable (though possibly confusing that with with dark warnings my vet gave about people who mix different complete dog foods, and then wonder why their kidneys pack up or something). Is there any problem in combining the two in the same bottle?

Any advice very gratefully received.

Have you tried ready made formula as the texture of powdered stuff is quite gritty. He may take a "smooth" milk and you can avoid wasting your EBM. Otherwise I think you can mix as I can't see the drawback apart from possible wasteage!

Yeah, I only use the ready made anyway, because I worry about the powder not being sterile and so on. I've tried HIPP because I don't like probiotics (no benefit's been shown except to their ability to make advertising claims) but I may just have to try another brand, see if he gets along better with that. He was fine with formula for a few days when he was a couple of weeks old, but at this point he's appalled by it. Unfortunately I just can't carry on pumping everything he eats! Six months has been hard enough - I won't stop altogether, but I think he can help me out with a mix, now, without it being any sort of a health concern. Maybe I just need to start him on yoghurts etc as well as breast milk and leave out formula completely, but I worry it isn't balanced enough, doing that so small.

Thanks anyway. I guess I just need to keep trying.

You can mix - it works well.
But seriously - have you tasted formula milk? It's FOUL - I don't blame him

Why are planning to wean him off breastmilk?

have you been exclusively expressing? if so, i bow to you, woman well done.

introducing yoghurt and cheese is a great idea.

sorry but no experience with getting a baby to take formula. mixing seems to work for people and it doesn't negate the benefits of the breastmilk. any breast milk a baby receives is good for him.

Yeah, exclusively expressing as nothing else is as good till 6 months, but after that I've been told formula can be fine, as their gut is maturing. I will express some feeds till he's a year, but I really am sick to the back teeth of getting a couple of litres a day, and need to scale it back if possible. I can't face natural term feeding when every drop is via a pump.

I'll start with yoghurts and cheeses now, see if they go down better! Thanks.
