Am bf 7 wk old ds. For the last few nights have had a glass of wine or a bottle of beer (the nice weather always does this to me ). By no means am I getting drunk, I always stop at just one glass.

What is the current thinking on how much alcohol gets into breast milk? I have to feed him in a couple of hours so I know what I'm drinking will be there. Am I being over the top worrying when I am only having a small amount of alcohol or should I be abstaining when he is so little and feeding so frequently?? I would appreciate some advice (before I reach for the red!!)

A glass of wine or a bottle of beer will be barely noticeable in your milk, especially if after you've had it, it's over an hour before you breastfeed. So, go on and treat yourself.

God, don't worry about it.
Amount that gets into milk is minimal.
Personally I drank a fair bit more than that (not getting wasted obviously) and didn't worry about it for a second.

After all those months pg it was such a joy to eat whatever I wanted and loll on sofa feeling all woozy with glasses of fizz.

i believe the thinking is that your body is processing the alcohol in your bloodstream at the speed it normally would, so go right ahead. but don't get drunk, obv.

the only downside is that it can inhibit let-down, so watch out for that.

A glass of wine is no problem. I was always more concerned about what it did to me (as cosleep) than how much got into my milk (was a bit of a lightweight at this point lol)

The alcohol leaves your milk at the same rate as it leaves your bloodstream, so 1 unit per hour roughly.

So one drink, 2hrs before a feed, the alcohol present in the milk should be negligable if any.

actually yes that's true, you don't really want to be woozy, on a sofa and apt to fall asleep, it's a surprisingly significant suffocation risk.
