Yesterday i took dd1 now 4 to look at her ears turns out she has swollen glands etc as has a virus but no ear infection as i was worrying about.

I told her dd1 fed my right through my pregnancy with dd2 (now 6 mos and was on my lap) and still feeds up to twice a day now.

She said...

Well the time will come when she won't be able to latch on anymore.

I kid you not. After I picked my jaw up off the floor...

she also said before that 'i let both of mine self wean'

imagine if they were all like that.

She's right. Mouth/jaw changes (eventually), it becomes quite difficult to get a latch.

I have no idea why you were so shocked!

ilove · 24/04/2009 18:19

She is right. They lose the ability to latch properly.

TheFallenMadonna · 24/04/2009 18:21

I thought that was true too. I watched that infamous programme about extended breastfeeding and one of the children on there was having difficulty getting any milk.

Lulumama · 24/04/2009 18:22

i take it that is good, what she said?rather tahn telling you breastmilk has no benefit after 6 months and tunrs to water and if you feed past 12 months it is for your benefit, not the baby??

foxytocin · 24/04/2009 18:23

because MNers are usually bemoaning the ignorance os HCPs wrt bfing as a rule.

not sure where the random numbers came from in my post"

foxytocin · 24/04/2009 18:24

xposted with Lulu who said it a lot better than i did but she doesn't have a whingy 6mo old on her knee. love ya lulu.

TheFallenMadonna · 24/04/2009 18:24

Ah. You're shocked in a good way! Sorry - I had pretty fab breastfeeding support from my HCPs so I do forget that they have a less then positive reputation.

PortAndLemon · 24/04/2009 18:26

It is true -- foxy just shocked because normal reaction of HCPs to natural-term breastfeeding is ignorance and horror so to get one who knew the facts and could communicate them was a pleasant surprise.

ruty · 24/04/2009 18:29

yes, imagine if they were all like that. What a shame she seems to be an exception to the rule..

Lulumama · 24/04/2009 18:46

mwah x

ruty · 24/04/2009 18:54

I bet there are quite a few DHs who have had more than a taste

Oh blurgh SM, why do you always tell that story?

Some things can be kept just for you and not shared with thousand of strangers on the internet you know.

FairMidden · 24/04/2009 19:35

[worships SM]

TheProvincialLady · 24/04/2009 19:37

Yes I bet there are loads of curious DHs who would never let on.

How on earth did you manage that? You must be a lot perkier than me (or maybe you have a long neck?)

WWYDT the majority of MNetters live for excessive sharing like that.

It's like picking your bogeys and eating them.

yes I think I follow you around SM mentioning that I can as well (or could last time I tried, it's not something I do regularly). No latch problems, despite not having been bf for at least 29 years!
