As far as I can tell there are the V shaped ones that are also for neck support in general, and then there are the C shaped ones that I assume go round your tummy - which is best? I think mum has a V shaped one she'll let me have - should I buy a C shaped one as well?

I would take your mum's pillow and see how you get on. I bought a v- shaped pillow and a kind of crescent one (I think a bit different from the one you mean)but ended up just using the ordinary pillows from my bed to put the baby on! I actually found it most comfortable to put the v- shaped one behind my back. The crescent was a waste of money!

Well that;s a cheaper option so I like that, thanks Just wanted to check people weren't going to rush on saying they're useless and you really need a 'proper' one

Def try your mum's and if it works that's great! I have a c-shaped one called a Boppy. It's quite firm but I love it and have successfully used it to breast feed all 3 dcs. I got it from the USA which at the time was a bargain - may not be such a bargain now. Mothercare do a very similar one now which I think will be just as good.

Thanks - might have a look there tomrrow just in case they happen to be half price, and then I'll have two! It's for tandem feeding - BabiesEverywhere says they're essential for balancing the newborn!

the long argos one - used it for sleeping when pregnant and now find it great for bfing. much cheaper than some others too

I found anything at all squidgey fairly useless and no better than a normal pillow.
My Boppy was brilliant though. Really firm and very supportive.
You used to be able to get them in the UK but now E Bay is your best bet.

Oh and I used it mainly for supporting baby while I was chatting on the computer!!!! So very very important!
In bed I just laid back with baby on my tummy.

I was stuck in hospital with hypertension for 8 or 9 nights after having DS, and got my mum to buy me a Widgey, as I'd heard they were fab. But I found that a newborn drops through the gap at your tummy too easily! I did find it excellent for propping me up in bed to feed though, as it's so firm. (My widgey came into its own after a month or two and I still use it 14 months on.)

While stuck in hospital, my DH brought me a Mothercare V-shaped one (not as acute a V as most) which was a bit better, but for most feeds for the first weeks, I just used a firmish bed pillow and tucked the corner underneath at the head end for more support.

A nice firm bf cushion comes into its own a little later when you want to surf the net after your baby's dropped off!

I have had various basic V shaped pillows for breastfeeding my dc's. The latest one I got from Argos for around 9 quid. Absolutely fine. HTH

I had a mothercare pillow, it was very squashy and I didn't think it would work as everyone else I knew had very firm BF pillows. However it was brilliant, it is a v-shape I guess but quite a gentle v IYSWIM. I got it when DD was a few weeks old and I'm still using it 15 months later.
