Does sucking hands always mean they're hungry?

My dd is only 1 and a half days old and seems to be on thebreastall the time. how do i know if shes actually drinking? She falls asleep you see but then 15 mins later is sucking her hands again.

She's only tiny, they feed like mad in the early days. If you see her sucking her hands or any other signs of hunger, just latch her on. Don't worry too much about whether she's drinking or not, they are at the breast for comfort as well in the early days. She's very new and needs to be close to you.

all babies need to suck, apparently its to do with their bones in their head going back to the right position after being squished in the birth canal, its also a natural reflex to keep their mums close.

i remember everyone telling me ' you can't overfeed a bf baby' and thinking this baby is feeding for four hours at a time!!

you need to get lots of snacks and watch alot of telly for several months!

they only do little wees at this age too. maybe you are changing them too frequently.

There's advice on this page for wet and dirty nappies in the early days

Try looking here for short video clips showing how to spot when a baby is well attached and feeding well e.g. good drinking
