getting burps up at night???

My 4 month old dd feeds and burps fine during the day, but at night feeds seems to end up being too sleepy to burp. She is fullly bf. The trouble is she is then also too full of wind to go back to sleep. Most nights it is taking me at least an hour and a half or two hours to get her to settle again. Normally this is when she finally does a little burp, sometimes prompted by another snack, when eventually I can persuade her to eat a bit more.

Feeling severely sleep deprived to say the least. Any suggestions?

try raising the back of the cot a few inches using books to make it more comfy for her

I sometimes hold both my dds hands (3 months) when she is in her cot which stops the flaying and seems to calm her.

btw think it is a myth that you have to wind after every feed especially at 4 months when they are moving around so much

She's still in a moses basket, and it is permanently raised a couple of inches. Also hold her hands sometimes, which can help when she is just unsettled and there isn't burp. But more often there is one... she will fall asleep in my arms, then when I put her down either straight away or within a few minutes she'll start crying and pulling her knees up, which is a sign of wind I know. So it is then back to the winding and trying all over again. Often she settles as soon as pick her up and won't burp again because she's still sleepy. Sometimes wonder if I should change her nappy or something to get her to wake up a bit more...

Maybe try laying her down for a minute on your lap until she squirms because of the wind, then sit her back up again to pat/rub her back. This technique sometimes wakes them up enough to burp. We have this problem as well, but I don't like to wake dd2 (11 weeks) properly because then it takes ages to get her back to sleep again! Tight swaddling sometimes helps her get back to sleep, even if she's still a bit windy, although sometimes it just results in her sleeping for an hour to an hour and a half & then waking up screaming in pain. Sorry, not much help, but lots of sympathy!

Sorry, sjcmum, I don;t think pulling knees up is a sign of wind....though I know there is a powerful myth about it. This is how some babies cry. That's all. She's upset because she does not want to sleep alone. This is why she settles when you pick her up.

How you deal with this is up to you, but continuous winding sounds exhausting as well as unproductive.
