Quick breast feeding question

I did have a couple last night but can't remember. (will add them if I remember)
dc4 born wednesday afternoon ( I should know by now). Milk has now come in and I am in agony. He is feeding well but I am so swollen hes hardly making a dent.
Two things, will his not draining the breast mean I'm more likely to get mastitus etc
and secondly how long does this agony bit last for again. I'm sure soon enough I'll be complaining about floppy boobs but the painkillers are making no impact on the agony and I need to know when the end is in sight
Thanks in advance

Lots of good info here:

bronze - how's the latch? could it be that your breasts ar so engorged that he's not getting on properly? you might need to hand express just a bit so that he can get more of the breast in his mouth.

the best thing you can do is to strip off (both you and baby) and cuddle. skin to skin contact helps a lot. try different positions as well. i foudn with Ds that the first time he properly drained mt breasts was when we were lying down, but you could try rugby ball as well.

how are his nappies? lots of pees and poos?

(congrats BTW!!! )

Hes feeding fine its just me who seems to have made enough milk to feed octuplets. I do express a tiny amount before so he can latch on but I don't want to do too much otherwise I creating more demand for a supply I dont want.
Its the walking round the house, bending forwards, trying to sleep business thats hurting me. Well I guess I can be thankful Im not worrying that I'm not producing enough for him.
Will have a look at the Kellymum link. I can't believe I can't remember how long this stage lasts for. Selective memory is a wonderful thing.
