What constitutes a "sleepy baby"? And when is it a problem?

dd is 6 days old and was born a healthy 9lbs 3oz. It doesn't seem to me that she feeds all that often - every 2-3hrs, roughly, though with at least one longish session of playing and sucking til she spits up per day. And she doesn't feed for that long - 5mins, then it's lights out. I'm not terribly worried about the length - iirc she starts getting hindmilk when I feel the letdown (is that right??), which occurs within a few seconds of her latching on. I'm no good with the 6-8 nappies business - she's in despicables atm and dh and I are being rather slack about changing them - but they are good and full when we do get round to it . Haven't had a poo in over 24hrs though. (Her, that is, I'm doing fine, thanks for asking .) She is usually awake for about 3hrs in the morning, and is plenty alert enough then, all the rest of the time she is out.

I don't need to worry, do I? Am mostly broken of this habit, but tired and v sore and distracted by rampaging 2yo, I can't remember what's normal for this age and the worries return...

phdlife, congrats on new baby. There's not enough info in your post to know if things are ok or not....every day is different for a new baby so saying what she 'usually' does in the morning and what her feeding pattern is is not very revealing

What does the midwife say?

Have her weighed (baby not midwife ) and you will get a better idea then.

hiya tiktok

I'd forgotten that whole "every day is different" bit! - but MW came yesterday and dd is back to her birth weight (8 days) so I guess not doing too badly. It was just her lightning feeds and looooooong sleeps that had me worried. That and, you know, having my brain fried by birth process...
