Went to the baby clinic this morning to have our son weighted , who is 5 months, bf and gains weight quite slowly. have been to some La Leche League meetings and reserched about the problem quite well.DS is still only on the 9th centile and I keep feeding him on demand, right now he seems to be going through a growth spurt and feeds every two hours, sometimes even every hour.
so here I sit in that baby clinic and that Hv tells me to stop feeding DS so frequently. I should have a gap of three hours between feeds and offer water (hello?!?). I told her that bf babies don't need water and that he seems to be having a growth spurt but she kept insisting I HAVE to stop feeding him like this, for everybody around to hear. She had a tone in her voice that sounded like I am seriously harming my baby. I just got fed up with her and left.

You already know she is talking shit but I would complain about her, she could be telling a nt so confident in her abilities mum that.

StarlightMcEggzie · 16/04/2009 15:06

complain- she's dangerous.

Mung · 16/04/2009 15:06

Good on you for leaving and ignoring her. I'd complain to save other Mums from her bad advice.

stop going? seriously La Leche League are the experts in bfing mums and babies, they have much more up to date knowledge, and it is specific to your needs. If you are happy, baby thriving apart form huge weight gain and LLL advise what's the problem? Don't put yourself through it!!

Luise85 · 16/04/2009 15:25

Thank you! Sorry, I just really needed to rant about her!

I thought about not going there anymore as all of their HV have been giving me wrong advices or ideas (one of them also tried to convince me 'not to eat too many different things' (her words) to make sure DS Eczema would disappear).
The only issue that makes me go back is that I like to keep an eye on ds weight gain every three weeks or so but they always want to talk to you after you get them weighted.

Luise, you certainly have grounds for complaining. In doing so, you will help other women.

goingnowherefast · 16/04/2009 16:47

definitely complain, please.

giveusabreak · 16/04/2009 18:07

Please complain if you feel you can. You are well informed but other mothers may be struggling. Her advice is plain wrong. You can always word the letter in a non-confrontational way to avoid making it seem like a personal attack.

gagarin · 16/04/2009 18:18

Just don't go. It's not compulsory!
