Any one else feeding every two hours?

Gave birth to dd3 9 weeks ago and ever since have been feeding every two hours, even during the night. Sometimes he can go for about 5 hours but mostly its 2. With dd1 I was obviously spoilt dd1 used to feed for 20 mins, sleep for 4 hours, feed, sleep it was blissful. dd2 was feeding every half an hour and eventually got put on what my husband describes as 'fake milk' at 9 weeks. I am trying to persevere with dd3 but its getting very tiring!

Nits - I noticed from another thread that you had been using nipple shilds. Have you stopped using them now? Whilst they can be great for minimising pain they can reduce your milk supply by 40%. They also do not correct the problem that may have caused sore nipples in the first place which is that the baby is not fixed as well as she could be. That in turn leads to frequent feeds because it takes the baby longer to get a good feed.
You are probably asleep reading this by now
It is not uncommon for babies to feed 2 hourly for a while but should space out. Do you let her feed for as long as she wants on the one side or do you stop her and switch sides? If so, ytr feeding her on one side for longer by even winding her and putting her back on the same side. She will the get more fayyt hind milk and go longer between feeds. If you only feed on one side, try offerring the second. Sometimes babies fall asleep mid feed then thgey are put down only to wake a short time later. Make sure she stays awake long enough to take a good feed.
There are loads of solutions to this problem dependant on the cause. It would be really helpful for you to speak to a breastfeeding counsellor who can give you individual advice.

Thanks for that advice, mears. I have stopped using the nipple sheilds now but I was using them in hospital and the breast feeding counsellor in hospital had checked the position and everything seemed fine it was just that he was a strong sucker (you can tell by the blister on his top lip!)! Thanks though, its great to hear from other people! I am hoping to go to a breast feeding support group in my area as soon as the other two go back to school so I will keep you posted on that one.

nits, congratulations on your new baby.
Funnily emough, my second baby got put on "fake milk" much sooner than my first and then when I had my third I was terribly eager to persevere through the difficulties.

My third baby was just as you describe, wanted to feed round the clock.

All I can say is persevere, it is well worth the effort in the early days. And he will not stay this way forever

Also, if you have good support , don't hesitate to give your babe a good feed then hand them ( and your other two!) over to someone else for three or four hours while you get some sleep. Your baby will be fine and you will both benefit from the rest.
This was my salvation with my third ( I am still breastfeeding at 13 months)although I realise not everyone is as fortunate as I was in having an incredibly special supportive friend to help out in this way

Those pockets of sleep really made all the difference.

Congratulations on your new baby nits. I remember feeding my dd sometimes every 30 mins in the beginning! I found I didn't mind too much as she only fed for a few mins. Mind you I didn't have 2 others to look after and could put my feet up whenever I wanted. It eventually did get to be longer gaps between feeds but I can't remember at what age. I know I didn't do anything to encourage her to feed for longer or space out her feeds as I did find it more convenient just to stick her to the breast for a few mins whilst I was doing something. She was enormous whilst she was exclusively bfed. I'm still feeding now at 1 year but only twice a day. Sorry this hasn't been much help but I suppose what I'm trying to say is stick with it. Is 'fake milk' formula?

Congratulations Nits......!
Lots of good advice here. My ds fed every 2 - 3 hours for ages, can't remember specifically for how long except I remember the health visitor helpfully telling me he should be going for longer! If you are getting to the end of your tether before you manage to get to the bf support group can't recommend nct bf line highly enough - tel 0870 444 8708 open 7 days 8am - 10pm - they were very supportive for me.
Good luck
