Told to pump & dump & feed with formula after anti-emetics - help?

I have a really virulent sickness bug, and the doctor came out, & gave me an intramuscular shot after seeing me throw up after sucking ice chips. He also prescribed Buccastem tablets, and I've needed 4 so far. The surgery have told me that they are contraindicated in the BNF and I have to pump and dump. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks - DS is 23 weeks on Sunday and exclusively ebm fed.

BM is 'living' so substances like drugs won't stay in your milk but will leave in the same way that they leave your blood stream. Pump and dump will be good for maintaining supply, but won't remove the drugs from your milk.

Kellymom is good for finding out what drugs are unsuitable while bfing

Qally, you can look up Prochlorperazine (the active ingred. in buccastem) here:
toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT....then check with your surgery and say what you have found.

That's great, Tiktok, thank you! I was sure there was more specialised info available than the BNF.

Wonderstuff, they meant to pump & dump for supply reasons, and not to give EBM until the Buccastem had cleared my system? My practice have been really, really supportive of me in trying to bf/keep him on ebm.

Qally, what did they expect you to feed your baby on in the meantime?

Hope you will share your info with the docs - they really should not be undermining bf in this way
