Thats it really. I fancy a couple of small glasses of wine but what is ok? My DD is 4 weeks old BTW.

quite a lot really. do try not to get shitfaced though or you will be very sorry at the 3am feed.

there are millions of threads on this, search alcohol or drinking in b&bf topic.

also your tolerance will be v low so maybe something light like cava rather than a massive heavy red. cheers!

I think a small glass of wine is fine!

I drink a small amount while breastfeeding, and as far as I know, it's a very neglible amount in the milk, which doesn't remain there for very long in any case. (Someone please correct me if this is wrong, but isn't it along the same lines as alcohol leaving your blood - 1 unit, 1 hour?) Don't forget that gripe water used to contain about 6% alcohol and was regularly poured down windy babies' necks!

Personally I find one glass of wine (always as a spritzer) is fine - but can't do more than that without feeling a) pissed and b) guilty

Go for it NBM

You really do have to have had quite a lot for it to be a problem, not that I am advocating you getting plastered!

I was very careful initially as I found that alcohol interferred with let down and I had a reluctant feeder anyway. It isn't a problem anymore, DS will persevere until he gets what he's after!

It is all about tolerance and absorbtion though, so I tend not to drink on an empty stomach and will spread what I have across a meal and several hours unless I have expressed milk to hand. Enjoy

I think a couple of small glasses is fine, although I thought that too, and after I poured it no longer fancied a glass!
I did get quite drunk at a Christmas night out, and I fed my dd when I got home, didn't do her any harm. Enjoy

Ocassional drink here and there won't be a problem for most. See if you notice any reaction in your daughter...most common, if anything were noticed, would be she would either become more sleepy (although not suggesting this is a good way to get baby to sleep!!), or she may not feed as well at the next session. (biggest concern is the possible taste change may cause some babies to not take in as much as they otherwise would).

If you wanted to be cautious, time having them right after a feeding so that you know there will be a fair amount of time before the next.

thumbwitch · 14/04/2009 22:44

and have your drink with food as well rather than on its own, as that slows the absorption.

Just wanted to say also that if you do fancy a bit more another time, there is no need to 'pump and dump' as it metabolises out of your milk.
