I posted last week about giving up bfeeding in the next few weeks/months, but had decided to give it a bit longer and then see how I felt.

DD must have heard me! She has refused to feed at all today, and only had one of her usual two feeds for the previous two days. I don't really know why. She has been poorly with a cold and (I think) ear ache, but she has been eating/drinking fine otherwise. I have just started my period but she has previously fed through a couple of periods with no trouble.

Now I really don't know what to do. Do I take this opportunity to give up now, or is this likely to be temporary and should I persevere? I feel REALLY distraught now at the thought this could be it.

This was me just over a month ago! 3 weeks before his 1st birthday DS just... stopped. I was very upset. He got upset every time I offered. Eventually I decided that he'd just finished, and stopped offering. I'm still a bit sad about it but at least it was him that decided when it was time to stop, rather than me having to stop him later on IYSWIM.

I think the thing that upsets me most, is the fact that I didn't know that his last feed was his last feed. We now have a long cuddle before he goes to bed where he used to have his last bf, and uietly talk about what we've done during the day, and what's going to happen tomorrow. I know he doesn't understand any of it yet, but he likes it and I still get a bit of 'us' time before he goes to sleep.

Thank you knitter.

After all my traumatising, DD is back on to feeding although she seemed a bit reluctant still this morning. This evening she seemed really keen to be feeding, but I felt as though there was very little there, even though she only missed a few days of feeds (and I expressed last night and got plenty). Not sure if my supply has been messed up. She persevered bless her, but don't know if she got much.

At least we seem to be back on track. I am planning to give up in the next few months but would really like it to be a gradual process rather than a sudden stop. It must be nice though to know that it was your Ds' choice to stop when he did.
