I seem to remember DS "getting it" at around 13 weeks or so...

It will pass.

Wheelybug · 13/04/2009 12:39

oh god she's only 5 weeks (and not even quite that). Not entirely sure how we're going to get anywhere when term starts again...

My son was like that for a while. I stopped breast feeding and it didn't really help to be honest, just made more work!

I found it got better when I accepted that it was going to be like that always and got on with, though it didn't last a long time at all.

our dd1 was like this for the first 8-10 weeks then it all changed. it will pass and soon!!!

ShowOfHands · 13/04/2009 12:57

Er 7 months. I just stuck her in a sling (at 7 months she was about 26lb too so heavy!). She never really slept during the day at all and at 13 months stopped napping entirely between 7am and 9pm.

A sling saved my life. At 23 months she still has days when all she wants is bm.

DS1 didn't settle down during the day until he was weaned at 4mths - he is 8.8 now though so thems were the rules back then.

Somebody else was able to feed him then which helped me have a breather occasionally. He still fed quite frequently.

He didn't settle into a decent day time sleep until he was about 11mths

Took us ages to get out of that phase. But she is now a lovely toddler who is getting easier and easier and who sleeps through the night like a dream. Switching to formula (at 10 months) didn't make any difference, by the way, and neither did solid food (at 6 months). I'm glad that I didn't do either earlier, despite much pressure from DH's family.

5 weeks is very young, and I know that it's hard, but it will pass. Are you trying to do too much else? Are you getting enough support? The best thing to do in my experience is to let the housework and anything else go. And to make sure that you're eating and drinking enough. And to have a good old moan about it on MN from time to time to let off steam.

About 9 months I think with ds4, exactly the same as when he started walking.

Less with the others though, ds4 is an extreme example however even after 3 mnonths its already a distant memory and it really does fly by, and you learn to dap. Also you will get longer stretches even if not as long as you would like

Thanks everyone - althougfh not what i wanted to hear in most cases . We've just been out for an impromptu lunch to get out.

I guess I don't have good day time sleepers - dd1 never slept much in the day and gave up altogether quite early but she was much more settled and slept well at night (She was also ffed due to being early and tiny so wouldn't/ couldn't latch). Admittedly they may well just be very different but I gave dd2 a coupke of foremula top ups last night as i had fed her non stop for about 6 hours and she still wouldn't sleep and she slept really well.

The thing is I had a c-saec so haven't been able to do too much anyway and have had Dh home, thrn my mum and thrneater hols but I have a 4 year old who needs attention/ being got to places once term starts and I'm also not v. good at being stuck in and not doing anything. Mind you, it might be better once we are out and about more as dd2 might nod off in pram....

My ds was horrendous for 3 months and then became very routine based!
