Is it possible to breastfeed during a C-section?

This possibility has just occurred to me. Since your breasts are above the screen, is it possible to get lo latched on above while they stitch you up below?

Haven't got my heart set on it or anything, just wondered if anyone knew?

I had skin-to-skin in the recovery room after my last section and breastfeeding was off to a great start, which was lovely.

yes, it is.
but bear in mind you'll be in a gown. a friend did it and they did something to the gown before she went in so that it was easier to get boob access.... I can't remember what though, leaving an arm out, or bringing an arm up through the top or something like that to make sure she'd be able to move it down.

put it in your birth plan too, and make sure your birth partner knows of your plans to attempt bf straight away

Oh goodie this sounds promising! I didn't like staring wistfully at my DD across the room last time. I think me and DH were a bit too green (for various reasons!) to say "actually, can Gentle and DD get a bit closer to each other?"

I had a ga for my section as it was an emergency. The mw latched ds1 on whilst I was still unconscious. I was a bit sad I missed his first bf, but apparently he was screaming for milk and she knew I really wanted to bf. So if I can bf unconscious cant see why you cant do it whilst being stitched up. From my experience I have learnt it is important to put in your birth plan if you want to bf straight away and let the mw know. If I had not done so they may of well given him a bottle whilst I unconscious. I also second taking arinca, good luck

There was no room for me to have DDs on my chest (have had all 3 by sections) - the drape was up to my boobs and I had one arm in a BP cuff and the other one I couldn't move much. Also everything from the boobs down was a sterile field, so nowhere to put the baby really. We just enjoyed cuddling her until I was stitched up.

However I did bf in the recovery room, which wasn't long after they were born so it didn't feel too bad and certainly didn't hinder bf-ing.

I had skin to skin in theatre and he latched on there and then and fed whilst stitching, but had v supportive consultant and an independent midwife in there with me.

I would imagine so. Boobs are above the screen and I was numb from ribcage down. Mine just wanted to pee on me though and despite immediate (after checks) skin to skin, didn't make any moves to feed until we were in recovery.

And we had no probs at all and he fed for 23 months
