Make sure baby is at the 'angle of the dangle', so if nipple is pointing downwards make sure she is right below the breast. Don't use a pillow as that might make her position too high. Rugby ball hold may be best. Make sure her mouth is open wide and pull her swiftly towards your breast, hand supporting her shoulders. You probably won't be able to see but the feel should guide you. HTH.

thaks mears. had exactly the same prob with ds!

she is quite lazy latching sometimes too, when she's not very hungry and just wants comfort quick feed

getting me down now, nipple been cracked for weeks!

Dinny I have this problem on one side. I find the biological nursing position is fab - either search the site or google it, there are videos to show it. I had a sore nipple for months until I tried it and I can't believe the difference.

that biological position does help but i often need to feed her out and about (3rd baby!) so can't really use it then!

i second holding your boob in her mouth.. could not feed DS one handed until he was much older. So try one had on the back of her head and one hand holding boob steady in her mouth. Makes your shoulders ache but no sore nipples.

right, will try the boob holding next feed.....thanks

I have pointy down boobs and had found it incredibly difficult to get both my DSs latched on well.

I found I tended to put DS on my knee and then sort of dangle my boob into his mouth which gave me chronic backache.

After seeing various bfcs, it helped to put a piece of rolled up cloth under my boob as a support and then bob DSs head on a cushion so he was just under breast.

I always used to hold my boob as well but that's a nightmare as you don't have any free hands to read/eat/drink/operate remote control which makes cluster feeding bearable in the first weeks.

b;imey, Leonie - with ds, the latch improved after 8 or 9 weeks, hoping does same with dd2

my non-downward pointy side is sooooo easy to feed on in comparison

I hold and slightly gently pinch

Tryharder - thank you so much, the rolled up towel under boob has worked really well and she is latching on much better (and nipple seems to be healing!)
