Milk supply at 6 days - help!

Can anyone advise me - i am getting myself in a state about this as had problems last time around with DD1 who turned out to have severe reflux. I have a sleepy baby who doesn't seem that interested in feeding (having to wake her every time). My milk came in 2 days ago but today i feel like i hardly have any and when i tried to pump i got less than 1ml out. DD is losing interest and falling asleep on the breast etc.

Should I have a good supply by now? DD2 has lost just under 10% of birthweight (stablislised in last 2 days).

help pls?
thanks

jasper - hope we can help. Firstly, expressing is no guide at all.

Is your baby producing soft yellow poo several times a day, and weeing to make the nappies heavy? Those are both good signs.

Hav you tried skin to skin, self-attachment, biological nurturing positions (info on all of these in mumsnet archives)?

Your baby has stopped losing weight now, and that's another good sign.

What did midwife say?

TikTok,
Thanks :-)
She started pooing again this morning (had been nothing for 2 days - now clearing the backlog i think). It is starting to turn yellow. Peeing was good yesterday but she has been lacking enthusism since last night so slightly less now perhaps. My breasts don't feel full at all and DD loses interest very quickly.

This happened to me last time around so I'm afraid i am a bit paranoid (and I was able to express much more easily then if i remember). I am trying skin to skin etc as much as possible but unfortunately not able to stop everything else (and DD1 has been sick with a nasty virus since saturday which doesn't help!).

Baby is a bit jaundiced but not terrible, but sleepy. Midwife not too concerned given that the loss appeared to have stopped, coming to reweigh on friday. I have queried re the latching on etc and she thinks it looks ok but i am not convinced.

Should I be expressing to try to increase supply (though if it isn't yielding much I dont know how much it will help!?)

If I were to try to get some one on one help, who would it be best to approach?

thanks again , appreciate it

jasper - I can't tell from your post if there is anything to worry about or not, but your confidence is definitely in need of help

There would prob be no 'backlog' of poo in a baby of this age, and the lack of poo is usually a reflection of a lack of feeding....and it's good she is now pooing normally, or seems to be.

How often is she feeding?

You can phone any of the bf helplines if you feel it's unlikely you will be able to speak to a midwife before Friday.

Thanks tiktok,
She seems to be pooing and weeing regularly now but is still very very hard to wake and keep awake. Jaundice is about the same as it was 2 days ago (which midwife didnt feel was that bad at the time) -but i suppose if poos only started properly yesterday (day 6) then it will take a while to clear?

She is feeding every 2-3hrs in daytime (i have to wake her for all of them) and then 3-4hrs in night (i have to wake her for this too and she isnt that bothered). She feeds for up to 20 mins or so but i have to do alot of prodding in this time. She basically doesn't ask for milk and i am sure would sleep through the night at the moment if i let her

I have been reading some of the other posts about this problem and see that in cases like this it is advised to feed from both breasts at each feed (which i havent generally been doing)? So i will try this too.

She is being weighed again tomorrow (day 8) and i am dreading it...
