Why is BF baby so darn windy??

Now he is 7 weeks he is starting to go longer between feeds in the night, but does wake up v upset with wind in the night - often staying awake for up to 2 hrs and often will only settle after a poo has appeared.

We have tried everything - at least it feels like it.

Even though he feeds well, poos several times a day and seems happy after a feed, could my latch be wrong so that he is taking in so much wind? Cannot work out why it is such a problem for him.

I'm sure someone else will confirm this but I'm sure it's something to do with your diet e.g. eating too much cabbage etc! I vaguely remember my HV going on about broccoli!

My dd was very windy after a not very windy at all dd and so sometimes its just how they are - it did get better about 4-5 months though.

I cut out caffeine from my diet completely and drank a lot of fennel tea and avoided windy foods like legumes and seeds and the like and it made some difference.

From my experience latch can certainly be a factor. Commonly it may be when a mother has an overactive letdown and a baby is struggling with the flow and bobbing on and off. Could this be you?
I know there is a common view that it is related to cabbages etc but I haven't seen any evidence for that either in my own life or in my reading - would be happy to be proved wrong.
Sometimes though it might be related to dairy intolerance but you'd expect to see other signs like rashes, unusual stools or even weight gain issues.

What are poos like? Ever mucousy, frothy or green?

Flow is certainly fast sometimes, but he is used to it I think as doesn't bob, although does gulp sometimes. I tend to feed him upright as a result.

I am lactose intolerant so although I have the odd bit now and again, he won't be getting a whole lot of dairy.

Poos are text book yellow, soft, etc.

Don't eat cabbage or brocoli atm and stopped eating garlic and don't like spicy food.
