Night time breastfeeding

My DD is 3 weeks old. I fed her from the start lying down at night. Her weight has been mostly fine (she did only gain 1 once in a week but seems ok now).

I tried to either sit up in bed or go downstairs when she wakes at night as I am worried about the latch, her slipping off when I have fallen asleep etc. But I am finding it really hard to resist temptation to lie down and feed.

Will feeding like this affect breastfeeding in anyway? Should I try and sit upright?

Thanks

NBM

Congratulations on your new baby

Learning to nurse whilst lying down is a very useful skill and can really help you rest whilst nursing

Just make sure the bed is safe for your baby. i.e. That she isn't going to roll out of bed or under the duvet/pillows.

feeding lying down is BRILLIANT! I didn't master it until about 3 months with my first baby but have done it with DS2 from day 1 and it's saved my sanity.

As long as the bed is safe, as BE says, I can't see what the drawbacks are. If your DD slips off when you are asleep then if she's hungry she will squawk to be put back on, and if she's full then she will fall asleep too.

It's actually quite good to vary the position you BF - it gives you more options if you have a sore nipple or something.
