I've read everything I have and I've read thread after thread....

I really want to give my 10 week baby a big fat bottle of formula. She cries and cries and cries. She burps, farts, poo's - they all make her cry. It' slike her digestive system was really NOT expecting to have to, well, digest.
I have been the chiropractors, oesteopaths, GP, HV, she has had colief, infacol, gaviscon, I have been treated for ductal thrush [ouch], we co sleep or ambynest sleep, have baby worn for weeks.

She will not not not be put down for more than 10 mins, on a good day. On a bad day I have held this child from 4am to 6am the next day.

I think maybe a massive slug of fm will maybe knock her out and she wont care where she is. She'll just be stuffed and lay there. Surely it's worth a try?

But - I want to exclusively bf. It is my job to do so, thats why I have maternity leave and 2 G cups to carry around. I can't give her such a product just because I'm finding it hard can I?

Arghhhh!!

Thanks Daffodilly. Do you have nappy colour issues? How does the problem manifest it's self?

Not sure I have heaps of milk, just fast[ish] flow.

Its normal my two were proper miseries til 3 months ...who knows what it was BUT why do we always suspect breast feeding when we ought to know that breast milk is the only appropriate nutrition for human babies THE ALTERNATIVES ARE NOT APPROPRIATE

Hi tree.
This sounds just like my dd... don't think she smiled until 14mo... honestly she hated babyhood.

The short times between feeds will be making her worse. Need to stretch out between feeds-
Will she go longer? (combination of making her sleep with walks in the buggy (guess dh would take her out, or he would have dd1 so you can walk fast enough) or a dummy, or slinging and ignoring screams (v v hard trust me))

Nappies.... try just cutting out MILK rather than all dairy- was enough for DS... also- try block feeding- feed from one side for a 3 to 4 hour period before swapping (I mean- every time she wanys to feed, offer same side within that 4 hr period) again- this helped ds who had v foamy stinky nappies at first. (I found kellymom website invaluable) My flow is very fast too... though not as forceful

How raised is her bed? (or is amby? i forget) need to raise head by a hell of a lot to get a decent enough angle to help reflux. the paeds showed me a way to wind a sheet through cot bars between her legs to stop her falling down the bed, which she will do if you have it steep enough to help reflux.
Hold upright after feeding for as long as poss too.
gaviscon- meh -never did much....compared with lovely gravity.

DD didnt get much easier really (sorry) but I learned to deal with it better... she also had other problems which prob distracted me from all these too! Solids helped... but she didnt eat reasonable amounts until 9 or 10 mo... but thats better for her immature digestion anyway.

The guilt is a killer- I used to be so down about the pain she was in... and as I said there were other problems which made me feel worse. BUT after 14mo or so she turned into a v v v happy little girl, who absolutely adores her mama and loves life. Some people just aren't suited to babyhood.

gotta change ds... back later

Tree - the only time I've had nappy colour issues was when I switched to feeding for less time but both sides during one feed (against my instinct but on advice of BF counseller). His poos went green, so I reverted to feeding one side only, and sticking to that side again if he wants to feed again quite soon

LenniEd · 06/04/2009 20:23

Tree - how is the expressing going? Is it working?

With public feeding I'll often give the same side I fed off last time if I'm out in a very public place as then flow is slower and saves all the pulling off DS does to cope with it. Would save you having to worry about expressing when out. When I get back I express off the other side to stop me getting too engorged.

Hope you are ok.

Hi all. It's been bedlam.

Have tried to use 'withdraw method' [possibly using that method that got me into this mess in first place nudge nudge]. It's had middling success, in that she has less gusty burps that propel her dummy accross the room. It is an impossibility when out and about however, so am putting her on the softest side as opposed the fullest.

Dairy free a resounding flop - am ok at home but as soon as head out, a cuppa or snack when feeding will nearly always contain dairy. I hope cutting down helps, I hope its not all or nothing with it.

Feeling dead sick so off now. Thanks for all your concern and tips.

Its the same here. I've held here pretty much since about 2am Friday.

Hooooooo.

Back onto dairy free - right after I've picked up the crumbs from that egg.

I do massage and the chiro taught me the abdominal release. I don't do 20 mins though - maybe I should do longer.

Am getting good at one handed typing.

Dreading dh going back to work on Tue - I need full time childcare for dd1 so I can just sit with dd2. It's bonkers!
