My dd is 16 weeks and has hideous reflux, she is on gaviscon and ompeprazole and i eliminated dairy from my diet as this was made her more sick and although she is mostly better, she is still uncomfortable and so i've been advised to cut out breastfeeding and give her neutramagine as they suspect she has a problem with lactose too.

i'm 36 hours in and although she is pretty angry with me, she is starting to drink it fairly happily now.

The problem is more me, i'm so blue, i didn't expect to feel like this, i don't want to stop breast feeding her, i hate the idea of feeding her formula which i know is ridiculous especially if my milk is making her sick.

My boobs are killing me and i'm not sure the best way to deal with them, should i just pump as normal, dropping a feed every couple of days, or should i just take a little off the top when they get too uncomfortable?

Don't go cold turkey, it may give you mastitis (V painful), it's best to just cut down in stages. To be honest, formula has lactose in it aswell unless it's soya milk IIRC. Someone will be along soon to tell you better then me.

thanks, i think you are right about the cold turkey, Neutramagine is a hypoallergenic formula, for babies with allergies and intolerances, its pretty horrid stuff and quite a struggle to get her to drink it, but i'm sure she will grow to love it in time....

Hmm, no. It tastes like shit (so I've been told by parents who's little ones have had to drink it). Is she any better drinking it?

I'd keep pumping, just incase you need a back up if the Neutramagine isn't going down too well.

Hi, I would recommend cutting out the diary, as you have noticed some change already, and be strict with it. But not cut out the breastfeeding. You may have to rethink your eating habits a bit, but the best thing for your baby is your milk. Have you considered that the gaviscon and ompeprazole maybe making things worse. Maybe consider giving her an infant type of acidophilus to help your babies gut flora. You can also give her baby goats milk formula (which can be found in health food shops). this has smaller protein glubules than cows milk so easier to digest, and more simular to breastmilk.

I wish you all the best of luck.

Nutramigen is dairy free or at least the amino acids are broken down so much that it's easily digestib;e. DS started on it a few weeks ago when he was in hospital.

You don't need to stop b/fing if you also go dairy free.

What I'm not sure about, and you should ask, is how long before dairy leaves your system.

Also, are they sure that reflux and dairy allergy are the same?

i was really strict with the dairy and gave that up 8 weeks ago, the gaviscon and ompeprazole, have given me a new baby, she was losing weight, projectile vomiting and screaming for hours before we put her on that, but things started to get bad again a couple of weeks ago and she seems happier on the formula, she slept from 7 til 7 for the first time last night so i guess it must agree with her.

She isn't drinking as much as id like but i'm hoping that will increase as she gets used to it.

i think the problem is more my state of mind, i thought id want to stop bf at 3 months, but if i had my way i'd be doing it for at least 6 if not longer, work permitting.

i think i'm just surprised at how depressed i feel, just wanted to get it off my chest i guess... no bad pun intended!
