Feeding a large baby in a sling?

I've had some success with feeding DD in a Calin Bleu (wrap) sling, but she is now too big at 6 mos to be worn in that tie (she is now, I'm pleased to say, a lot longer than I am wide!). Have tried in a ring sling (Huggababy I think) but can't seem to get it tight enough to keep her in the right place, so have to hold her up, which kind of negates the point.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a tie for either the wrap or ring sling which will let me feed my little chubster hands-free?

I know a mummy who breastfed a 90percentile baby at 9 mos in a ring sling. She used the cradle hold. If i remember rightly she had his head opposite the rings.

She is a committed babywearer and i suspect she went through a bit of a learning curve to do it so well so it is a matter of try and thee shall succeed? I am sure she's used slings from birth so her technique grew and changed with her baby.

I fed ds happily in a Kari Me up to 8 months. Now he is 9 months old, we have an Ergo and I think it's the best money we've spent He loves being in it, will last us for (hopefully) a long time, and I can feed discreetly when he is on my front. Can't recommend them enough

I feed my long 5mo in a Kozy mei-tai. I drop the waist straps onto my hips and lower her towards the boob by loosening the shoulder straps. I can't quite walk and feed hands-free - she needs a little help to stay latched so I hold her closer to me using one hand/arm - but I think I'll be able to in time.

With a Huggababy you can't really adjust the rails separatly because of the sewn together tail - I think thats the problem as I fed my DS in a ring sling with no problems till he was 1. We used a cradle carry, and him just folded up

I had some success (but very rubbish BFer) with upright front carry in the Ergo. I then bought a Yamo because the straps are easier to adjust - buckles move up and down to tighten so you can keep them out of your armpits.

I think you're at a difficult age - a slightly older baby will be much more determined to lunge and get what she wants however you do the sling, so you may find that something not working for you now will work for you a couple of months down the line.

I fed 14mo DS on the bus today in our babyhawk mei tai. It was a bit of a wriggle and there was more boob out than I would have liked (handily covered by my shawl) but DS is old enough to burrow for it and had a good drink

I can see it would work nicely with him if I wore him at hip level instead of my waist (as I sometimes do anyway). Thankfully he normally waits for a feed these days.

Thanks for the replies I've also discovered since posting that youtube is a surprisingly good resource for different ways of trying a wrap, so will have a look there too.
