A month ago DD was doing 5 hours stretch, followed by 2 lots of 3 hours.

Now I'm lucky if I get 2 hours - last night I got about 3 hours sleep total in 20 minute chunks, which is worse than when she was just born. She seems to suddenly have developed bad wind problem, I have to burp her now which can take an hour. She never used to suffer from wind. She's had a bad cold but that seems to have gone and she's still waking constantly. I try feeding her but she doesn't even seem that hungry, constantly coming off the breast (probably gulping more air in the process..) and making me very sore.

What's going on? I really thought it would be better by now. I'm not expecting sleep-through-the-night miracles but feeding/waking 6 or 7 times seems a little much and I am so exhausted I spent most of last night in tears

god poor you.
i can only suggest some wind aids such as gripe water/colic drops. perhaps she might benefit also from inhaling steam (when you're having a hot shower take her in the bathroom) to get rid of that cold.
theres a great book by andrea grace called baby sleep which might also offer some ideas.
hope you get some sleep soon.

Infacol has a cumulative effect so you have to keep using it - I think it takes a week or so of regular use to work the best

KiwiPanda · 02/04/2009 17:49

Thanks Jojay, I didn't know that. Will keep trying with it. Is it usual for babies to suddenly develop bad wind at this age? And only at night?

I don't think it's that common, but for what it's worth they do have an epic growth spurt at this age - my Ds is 20 wks and we're coming out the other side of it now (fingers crossed) but it was tough at the time.

Swaddling helped him a lot - he used to thrash around and be grumpy a lot which I thought was wind, but once he was swaddled it miraculously disappeared!

Your DD is quite old to be swaddled but it may be worth a try

If it is wind gripe water has an immediate effect. It disperses the bubbles and they usually have a great big burp
